If it means enough, people can or will find the money - it's not as if it's a huge sum. Especially not if you're going to matches regularly

Surely this is the point. In the greater scheme of things, it's a drop in a bucket to the club and does nothing to enhance it's image/reputation/financial well being.

But it does create a more fair method than chance to pick mascots

My son was a mascot. I got it for free as I was working for Thomas Cook at the time (they organise the travel packages for Spurs fans).

It was the last game of the season and my son was the smallest - he was only 4 at the time. It turned out to be Michael Dawson's last ever game for us, and was also the last game that the captains mascot had a kickabout with the captain - hugo doesn't do it.

Proud moment for me, but as a previous poster said, I think my son was a bit overwhelmed and terrified

It's still chance, wheather you pay or not. There are far more applicants than avilable spots for mascots. That's why it should not be charged, or at least not more than what a regular ticket costs.

It should be charged at the point where applicants and tickets are balanced. If it's priced too low then it's left too much to chance, it it's priced too high then there will be empty spots.

So what you say is that a big fan that happens to be the son or daughter of a single mom/dad with low income, should be excluded, so that the children of rich parents should have a better chance.
What a nice guy you are

It's a lot for some. Far better to give it out randomly than to someone with a silver spoon up their arse.

The least fair method is chance - that takes away the opportunity to earn the right to be a mascot (or for one's kid to be). The world has a fairly solid system by which it distributes scarce resources, I don't see why Spurs should think themselves better than centuries of development and work around that system.

By your logic, would you be happy if all tickets were given out by lottery every week? If a load of Korean tourists got to go to a cup final instead of those with plenty of loyalty points? I don't think that's fair.

18 % of the mascot spots are distributed by chance, given that you buy the lottery ticket that is a junior membership (given that I have got this down correctly). If you don't support the idea of paying for a mascot spot, you can refrain from buying one. I don't see why this is such a terrible way of organizing this.

"Earned the right to be a mascot." Are you serious? So how exactly, has some five year old "earned the right"? Oh, you mean mummy and daddy. but I thought this was meant to be all about the kids? Clearly I was mistaken, it's all about parental income.

So mascots should be kids of those with most loyalty points?

Of course it's not all about the kids. Do you think kids instigate this or parents on the whole?

And money is how the world works - why should Spurs be different?
