DIY/Home furniture blah blah blah

Moved into my new place a while ago - brilliant place. However two things. I need a new boiler - was told £2k - which I didnt realise prices had gone up that much. Anyone had to replace their boiler? how did you do it etc? what did it cost? where from? (the 5 W's jeez)

Secondly how the hell do you turn a house into a home. Its been a few months and yet it doesnt seem like a home. Its a bit sedate - bare walls and still that brand new bleachy disinfectant sterile type smell.

Anyone suggest anything? was thinking of plants buit id end up smoking that. Im not one to hang pictures of myself up haha but maybe some arty farty canvas type pictures?

The only house I've lived in that felt homely is the one I shared with my missus. I think its because they purchase random boxes and lighting and collect bits. Men stop accumulating house items when the TV system is in place and you have somewhere to sit

So true lol...

When I bought my apartment I painted the whole place, had new flooring, got bedroom furniture, new TV etc then then once the sofas arrived I pretty much gave up!!

The apartment looks good but I never got round to the small things like buying pictures or putting up shelves etc.. It can wait til I can be arsed!

I've built number of furniture pieces in the past - great fun and it saves a fortune. Plus you can custom-design it to your space dimensions, etc. - would suggest that route myself

I have recently put up about 15 photos, in frames, on my walls in my hall. Photos of my family, my friends and even my 21st where I got my todger out! This has made it feel more homely as my flat was pretty bare. So putting photos up on walls might help. They are in no particular style either, just put randomly on one wall but I think it looks pretty cool.

Costs nothing to do really as I got all my photo frames from Wilkinson and printed off the photos myself.

This is an awesome website by the way, check it out. I have used this many times...

I will check out the links.

Already spent thousands on furniture - no more. Not wanting to clutter the place up.

By the way - IKEA is fudgein amazing. Brought the little things from there plus a few mirrors. Cheap as chips.

As the poster above (forgot who) said - once my tv went in (the last piece of the furniture) I couldn't be fudged with anything else.

Ps - what about the fudging boiler - what to do what to do what to do

With regards the boiler mate you need to just bite the bullet and get one. I have owned houses and flats and it is usually the biggest expense you will have. But depending on where you live it is essential. We have a house in worthing we rent out and one of the downstairs room has no central heating it is used by the family we let to as a summer room as it backs onto the garden. But this room always has damp in.

A new boiler is a must, the government a little while ago were doing a deal for people buying new boilers some eco thing i would look into that, you may even get a grant or something im not sure what it all was. Just remember saying to the wife how fudging typical it was that a couple of months after we brought a new one the government were doing a deal on them for people.

As for the smell, we have these lovely Japanese glass water things that you put sticks in and they let off a subtle smell for a few months. For decorations i would put up photos as others have said or anything that makes up smile. So lots of tottenham stuff, i have a den at home and it is full of mark cavendish canvas art. The wife said she would prefer porn, but i love mark cavendish.

what ones do you get? Wouldnt mind getting some of those if they make you relax!

Got them in marks and spencer, the Japanese ones are the best ones, you can smell them in the store. What i would love to do if i had the time and spare money is to have a glassed of room with a glass sky light then have a water feature inside the room with pebbles and a beautiful Japanese tree. Is something i will try to do over the next year or so.

Scara's got a point.

DHSF, you need to get a darts board, a pool table, a DJ booth / Bar Area and some sluts round regularly.....

GRRRR man stuff.

A couple of years ago i looked into getting a two way mirror but they are expensive and we do not have the room to do it justice. We do have a silk sheets in the bedroom and a celling mirror.

Would suggest DHSF get a sex swing but im not sure if the floor above could take his weight;)
