Anyone thinking about going to the EU this summer be prepared for airport chaos. Just back from Frankfurt and the new registration is absolutely ballache. 2 an half hours queue after a 1hr 5 flight. Also have to repeat the process on exit, slightly better but not much

This bit stands out...whats the point of doing this manual inputting..just wait for the machines to be fired up, I take it the machine bit will still have to be done next time?

French authorities have not yet switched on the machines that will be used for these checks at the port but border officials at Dover were still having to take details from travellers to enter into a database. This in turn led to longer waits this weekend.
France suspends extra EU border checks at Dover after hours-long queues
The port said extra checks would be suspended, after travellers faced queues as temperatures soared.

Seemingly there is not a "once and done" with the system, I have been to Germany twice and had to do it each time, guy behind me in queue goes every week for business and he said he has had to do it every time. Absolutely mental

Maybe it will eventually, but its not yet, my business partner had the same issues in Spain.
Also it was meant to replace manual stamping, but you literally queue to register on the machines, then you queue again to have your passport stamped, both in and out. There is a feeling that when there are only 2 entry points/police checking out of about 20 booths that countries are goading
