***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool***

Weren’t we the first team to not benefit from the away goal rule when we lost to Chelsea on penalties in 2018?
We’re the unluckiest club in the world.

Most likely. Also the first team to lose Champions League place to a team that finished outside of the top 4. Im sure there are other examples. Like how the handball rule was changed after the decision given against Sissoko in the CL Final.

If Bayern Munich were to play Liverpool at Anfield, Tel would definitely be in the mix to play and would get minutes, so don't be scared of using him, he has a lot of Bundesliga and CL experience and has fantastic goals per 90 stats.

Ditto if Lens were going to Anfield, Danso would play and be expected to play well, so don't be frightened about playing these guys; Danso has a huge amount of experience in Bundesliga, Ligue1, CL and also Prem.

If (when) the dippers win the league, does the runner up to them get the European place anyway?

It is but it's a dilemma, go strong lose and have a knackered team for Sunday, protect players lose and lose with strong team at Villa, who can say except the usual suspects who think we should beat everyone.
Full strength, then see what we can do against Villa. Without putting anyone at a real injury risk of course.

I'm a big fan of planning ahead, rotating etc. But this is a semi final, until it's over it's the only game that matters.

Not really worried about them not being good enough. But having just arrived a couple of days ago being chucked right in is a slight concern. But Ange has done so successfully in the past, so may be a good idea.

i expect ange to play at full strength. but i wouldn't start vdv or play a high line because liverpool attack fast and in numbers.
sitting deep and countering suits us better.

if we get to penalty kicks and no injuries its progress.
i worry for porro and son - both looking like they need a break and won't be surprised if they pull something soon

For me VdV depends on his actual fitness levels and injury status, impossible to know from the outside.

Expect and want us to continue with the kind of mixed approach we've seen recently. Press high for periods when we have the energy to do that, but drop deeper when forced to and when we don't have the energy to execute the press well.

Share your concern for Son and Porro, VdV too if he starts.

Need some proper big performances from several of our players here, particularly defensively. But we also know we're capable of scoring ourselves.

I guess you have to localise the decision down to the position they play.

We have Gray, Davies, VDV, Danso, Porro, Spence, Reggie to build a back four. When I look at that, I have to believe that Spence will play LB against Salah after his Mbuemo performance. If VDV is fit, he plays.

We have Richi, Son, Kulu, Tel and Moore for the 3 forward roles. The key decision here is whether Ange wants Kulu in the AM role and not the wide area. He likes to move Kulu between the 2 positions during the game.

Personally, I think Tel will start but Danso won't. There's too much tactics involved with the defence and Ange will go with the guys who know it.

Kinsky
Porro Gray Davies Spence
Bentancur Bissouma Bergvall
Kulusevski Tel Son

I would not disrupt a backline that done so well against Brentford especially if there are concerns that VDV is not close to 100%

I did not want to post this but feel I must to explain my position, I always believe we should select our strongest team, rotation is a fad, resting players who need a break is ok with me but the bloody stupid XI players (I wouldn't grace them with the term teams) we use to put out was a disgrace and showed a lack of respect to our opponents and more importantly the poor mugs who paid and travelled to games. I don't fancy us to beat Liverpool in the tie even with our best available players as I think they are physically spent, when I write protect the players I'm thinking if or when we reach a point in the game where defeat is inevitable we sub as many as possible. I do not like suggesting we might lose any game as I tend to hope for the best and did not wish to lay it out so plainly in my original post.

I honestly don't think we have a chance. I can see it being a comfortable 3-1 for the Dippers that turns into a 5-1 as we push and get hit by the counter. Tel should be involved, and Danso if he's gelled in training. Not like we have a settled back line anyway.

But then, I didn't think we had a chance in the first leg and look how that turned out.

We've definitely got a chance, but not much of one. It was easier to impress in a game which becomes meaningless in the grand scheme of the competition if we stack it in the 2nd leg. We could have a 3 goal league and I'd still be bricking it tbf....

Plus, in the simplest terms, it's a team in 1st place compared to a team in 15th. We're deep enough into the season to be relatively informed by league standings, even if it doesn't tell us the whole picture. They're a very good team, and we're showing positive signs and by these season's standards, are in decent form.

We may as well give it a go (obviously you aren't suggesting we shouldn't) but I have a feeling we'll need a lot to go our way. Here's hoping it does and Saudi Sportswashing Machine can what they need to tonight to set up an intriguing final.
