Brennan Johnson

Think he's been showing signs of positive movement on those fronts this season. But I also think it's something it will take time to improve on.

He's also played a lot recently and I think he's somewhat running on fumes. That's not typically when players develop on their weaknesses.

I haven’t seen much improvement. I would like him to succeed but he needs to do more besides getting on the end of crosses.

I think he's been more proactive with taking players on, cutting inside and driving at players. At times, not all the time.

I think if he wants to be a regular starter for us and we actually reach some of our aims like being a regular CL team competing for titles he'll have to develop further in some of these areas. If not he'll end up being one of the "upgradeable" players that we at some point will find an upgrade for.

As I've said before I think taking real steps in these areas will take time. But I also think he has a lot of the tools to do so.

He is 9/10 good at arriving in the box for a 1 touch finish.
He is 1/10 good at dribbling past a player; makes it look SO difficult.
If he could learn to feint one way and go the other, he would find the game so much easier.

An interesting question is, have any of our players shown a marked improvement under Ange’s coaching?

I also feel nobody is teaching him to be better or they just let him get on with it and are not fussed. Cos nothing has improved regarding defensive duties
Not just defensive attributes, there are a lot of holes in his game that don't seem to be improving. I wonder of instead of trying to up his general level, they are instead just focusing on improving existing attributes.

He's always had a nose for sniffing a good counter run, last season he'd get on the end of things and fluff them, this year his finishing has been on point.

I'm still unconvinced tbh, if this team wants to say win the league or CL in the long run you need a better player than Johnson and someone who actually contributes in game beyond finishing the occasional chance.

He has games like this where he appears to be fighting with himself on whether to shoot or pass.
We all know his instinct is to shoot. He does that very well for the national team and for us a few years back.

Not sure why he is not being selfish, perhaps the weight of the captains armband and a need to support the team

He isn’t making any space for himself to shoot
Then he lets the ball get caught in the wrong place (under his feet)
