Nobody expected them to score a goal in this tournament. Uruguay and Egypt were overwhelming favourites from this group. So the Ruskies have done well imo
 
Russias ranking is low because they haven't been involved in qualifications presumably - don't know what the bookies were saying but would be surprised if they weren't expected to go through their group.
 
They have done well, but a better side will have too much for their geriatric defense.

Mo Salah would've had too much as well, but he was disgracefully injured by the coward Sergio Ramos.
 
Egypt cant complain; that result was pharaoh enough. They had five clear chances tonight which would have made it sphinx-3.

Well done to Russia for getting their second win to virtually progress to the Round of 16 for the first time since 1986. It was another convincing display by Russia, even if their first goal was an own goal by the Egyptian player. They worked hard and duly killed the game off by getting the well-taken second and third goals. Cheryshev is the surprise revelation of the World Cup so far as he has scored another goal to become the joint top scorer with 3 goals now. Remember he is only playing due to the injury of Dzagoev but has made full use of his chance. He is the only player playing outside Russia and has made full use of his experience with Real Madrid, Sevilla and now Villareal. As for Egypt, they are continue to be the big bottlers as they are yet to win a match in 3 World Cups so far.

Lawro is an idiot, or just too old for it now, but he's only the co-commentator so you only have to hear him when he pipes up.

Pearce, like all commentators these days, feels the need to fill every second of air time with something, anything, no matter how irrelevant or inane. Silence doesn't appear to ever be an option.
