Vincent Janssen

I feel a Janssen/Kane partnership might work extremely well with Janssen at the point. Janssen's strength is to hold up the ball and lay it off to runners or set it back, and I can see Kane feeding off that and taking even more shots than he usually does!!

I have thought the same thing since we got Janssen, Kane is ( imo) a better player coming ont the ball from deeper and in Janssen we have the perfect hold up man.

Janssens hold up play is not especially good. It is though his primary attribute as a forward.

He does not run the channels or spin in behind the centre backs due to lack of pace and rarely pull out wide successfully for similar reasons.

He is quite one dimensionally for a striker, but he's not stupid as he uses his main attribute as often as possible.
That does not help him in the EPL as he is easily restricted at this level.

You don't appear to be a big Janssen fan. His mum won an olympic gold in speed-skating if that makes you feel any better.

But that's not how he plays for Holland

For them he does the hold up play but he also works channels .... A big difference is he gets played the ball much quicker

Holland: yes it is. He did scored a wouldie, but that's not his go to trigger action when the ball is coming his way.
He always comes short and plays the game he knows well.
Now he is only in his second season of playing outside the Dutch second devision, he is a baby to anything near near top class football. So he may well bring more to game over time. He is basically a league two player who had a season in the equivalent of our league 1 or low championship.

I can't fault his character and effort, it's top class. I'm looking at it purely from an Spurs point of view and what is required for us at our level in the EPL.
It's a bloody hard league, just ask Ibrahimovic

I understand where you are coming from, just trying to make you smile by thinking about his mum in lycra.

Zlatan is having good chances served up on a plate and missing them, Janssen isn't.
I've watched 3 man u games and zlatan had more and better chances in one then Janssen has had since he got here.

But he smashed that league and is scoring 1 in 2 at international level

The difference from me is confluence and style. He actually plays with a swagger for Holland and as I say they play relatively quick footy. We play very slow now and it's killing our game

Zlatan has had the most shots in the league

Guys I was just saying our league is no walk in the park.
Chances are rare in this league, but I get were your coming from and he is getting little service. This may just may be a lack of confidence in him from the more established players. Remember we have a very young squad.

Odd how the so-called media forgets to mention that. If we wore red and white, were the first franchise club, bribed our way into the top tier and had no soul they'd be all over it.

I don't take much the media says without a large pinch of salt.
I'm a Spurs that does not see Arsenal as anything other than another team in our league. I have a much bigger dislike of Liverpool. I want to win the NLD don't get me wrong but I don't get unglued over it, sorry.

Well, that explains how your knickers got in a twist about our young players and "whether they have it too comfy" after the league cup i guess...;)

What do you mean by that?

Apparently we had agreed a fee with Fulham and had agreed terms with the player. How can you say we didn't really want him?

I think our interest came about more because it was a potential bargain/cheap option to give us some cover for Kane than it was because he was one of our top targets - once the summer came around and other players became available we moved on

It is strange that some keep banging on about Janssen only being proven in a poor Dutch league when we could have had Dembele who's been banging them in in those power house League's of the championship and Scottish premier league.

If you are including me in that "strangeness", then I would say that I am personally happy with VJ being given a chance, but I would ALSO have liked us to sign a young striker with bags of potential as a number 9 goalscorer as these are remarkably few on the ground. At £6/7 million Dembele mi would have been ideal in this role, especially as it appears we don't have anyone coming through the ranks in this specialist position.

Being Liverpool it didnt help :(
They looked lethargic when compared to the youngsters from Liverpool IMHO.
Almost as though 'it didn't matter that much'.
Liverpool are begrudgingly looking good, I like Klopp footballing style a great deal grr.
They have that 'variation' in attack/going forward that we are crying out for.
We are good when on form, but Pochettino is more 'painting by numbers' and Klopp is more Jackson Pollock!

No I'm not including you, I would have liked both as well truth be told.
We need to accept though that we made a bid for Dembele that everyone seemed happy with, only for him to change his mind and go to Celtic.
Nor much we can do about it.

Spot on.

Very poor decision by the club to not buy him last Jan when it looked nailed on. Would have been happy to see him go back to Fulham until May if that was the stumbling block, but definitely should have had him as the 3rd option this season. Could have even ended up 2nd choice, we will never know now.

One things for sure if we dont add another forward in the Jan window, I will be even more disappointed with our recruitment than i am now, becuase you can guarantee one of Kane or Janssen will get injured again this season
