Troy Deeney has emerged as a shock £5million target for Tottenham. Spurs are weighing up a move for Watford’s powerful striker with Jermain Defoe set to follow Clint Dempsey out of White Hart Lane.
West Ham, who are among the bidders for Defoe, and Fulham are also showing a keen interest in the 25-year-old target man.

Goal machine: Deeney celebrates after completing his hat-trick in the 6-1 win against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday

Deeney only a signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract at Watford in March, preventing one of the most prolific strikers in the Championship last season from walking away as a free agent this summer.
[h=3]CHEQUERED PAST[/h]Deeney was sentenced to 10 months in prison for his part in an attack outside a Birmingham nightclub in the early hours of February 29.
He served a third of the sentence between June and September 2012.

The former Walsall player, who moved to Vicarage Road for £500,000 three years ago, scored 20 goals despite missing the first month of the season following his release prison after serving a third of a 10-month sentence for affray.
He hit the injury-time winner that sent Watford through to the Play-off Final at Wembley, although Gianfranco Zola’s team eventually lost out to Crystal Palace for a place in the Premier League.
Deeney has continued his rich vein of scoring this season with four goals in his first two games, including a hat-trick in Saturday’s 6-1 win over Bournemouth.

Serious Grzegorz Rasiak fear.....

Considering the off-field conduct of America's NFL players, he's a saint. Heard recently that the longest period of time that has passed between charges being laid against a NFL player is something like 32 days. Big murder case last month.

So he's a bit of a badass. We've been playing like daisies and could use a little sandpaper in the mix. Make his contract conditional on his conduct outside the park. Hold back a lump sum until the end of each season.

No BAE is a bit of a badass. Troy Deeney is a scumbag who kicked the brick of a guy who had already been knocked to the ground by one of his mates.

He's 3 years younger than 'over the hill' Soldado and still playing in the lower leagues.

seriously, who has referred to Soldado as over the hill??

and so what that he is 25 and still playing in the lower leagues.....both Grant Holt and Ricky Lambert have proved that players who have been playing the lower leagues until their late twenties early thirties can still come into the PL and do quite well

I think he is a good player. What can go wrong for that price. Would love it to mean the end of Ade too.

Try naming a player that played in the lower leagues til 25 in any team finishing in the top 4. Grant Holt and Ricky Lambert arent good enough for our standard.
And there was a raft of posters claiming we wouldn't sign Soldado at the price we did because of his age.

If we desperately need a cheap backup striker we could get Kevin Doyle for 2m. I doubt Deeney is as good as him.

no, there were posters questioning whether we would buy 28 year old Soldado for 25 mill because of financial reasons/usual club policy, not because he was over the hill

no-one has said Deeney would be first choice. He is still only 25, maybe he is a late developer, he could form part of the squad.......
