Transfer Window Thread

Imagine if Winks had been loaned to Villa and played in the Championship this year. How would he look? As good as Grealish?
What about if we had loaned Eriksen to Villa?
Or Dembele?
Players should really be looking immense in the Championship, if they even think of coming to join The Mighty Spurs Bandwagon.
Nonsense. Players look and play better with better players, they improve playing with better players too. Dele looked a very good talent in League One, but didn’t look ‘immense’ by any stretch. The Championship is a far harder league physically than you appreciate aswell, you’re being far too simplistic....

Only if they have the latent talent there to begin with. Without mentioning names we have the odd player that obviously does not look and play better just because he is surrounded by better players.

Probably, though gven we didnt manage to shift anyone in the summer, we might need to drop our asking prices

I thought that the problem in the summer is that the players who we were prepared to sell didn't want to join the club's that came in for them.

Small time thinking on their part. I could have really seen Dembele ripping it up for Leyton Orient in the Vanarama National League.

We need a deep lying playmaker and a back up striker for Kane, a proper one that is going to push him hard.

Definitely need another CM - agree, thats our priority and with Dembele's latest injury, combined with his track record, is pretty darn urgent for January.

Agree that Llorente is a non-option and a bit of a waste of space - clearest indication is that he only ever gets on when we're absolutely desperate. I'd probably replace him with someone who can play CF as well as they can play off a CF (whether centrally or wide). Whilst we have Dele, Eriksen, Lamela, Son and Moura for roles behind a CF so are pretty strong there, having 7 players for those 4 attacking positions in a 4-2-3-1 feels like the right number, but Llorente is barely an option

I wonder if McGinn was English and Grealish was Scottish whether people would be happy for us to spend £40m on McGinn and write Grealiah off as a flash in the pan? Because if you watch them side by side and ignore the hype, McGinn's definitely the more talented and more effective.

Dele was bossing games against men as a 17 year old. He did look immense relative to who/what he was and where.

And even then, nobody expected him to succeed as well and as quickly as he has.

I agree with Bullet and NoLimits, a players class should stand out to make them appeal to a premiership side.

If you dont stand out in anyway, how on earth can we reasonably expect a top club to buy you, and for you to miraculously start playing top level football simply because of the environment?

Thats not to say a player needs to clearly be the best in the league, just that they need to stand out.

Think about buys we have made, Carrick, Lennon, Dawson, Reid, Huddlestone, Walker, Naughton - not all the finished article but all had something that set them apart.

They weren't as old as Grealish. Lennon and Hudd were 18, Walker 19, Naughton 20, Dawson 21. Reid was 25, but he was much more like a Malbraque/Krancjar/Pienaar signing than a kid

Carrick at 23 was the exception, but he played in a position where you tend to need to be more mature to break through (like Winks is doing now)
