I haven't called anything sacred. Ideas should be challenged if they appear to be incorrect. Authority should be challenged just for the sake of it, but particularly if incorrect or harmful.

Aurier is just a guy that plays football. I see no signs of him trying to be a religious authority. I see no signs of wrongdoing on his part. He deserves to be treated with empathy, respect, kindness and understanding. I think it's better to strive for that, even though I do at times fail.

I think he should get some respect for honouring his beliefs and NOT letting it affect his work

In his angry online persona world he runs everything. IT. Logistics. HR. Finance. Supply chain.

If they'd done so because their imaginary friend told them to, yes.

Breaking rules because of wanting to have fun is one of the very best reasons to (see recreational drug use, driving fast, etc. for references).

    Those seem like wasted emotions.

I will happily out time into explaining just how ridiculous and damaging religion is to him, if help is what he needs. I doubt he's interested in listening though - brainwashing has that effect, it seems.

    Edit:

I understand you didn't and wouldn't call anything sacred. My point was in reference to your post about how those observing a religion are different to those at the top who abuse it. I think that anyone furthering religion in any sense helps create the environment where the Pope and his merry band of kiddy fudgers can exist.

It's a smallish company, all the board share multiple responsibilities. I'm the one with responsibility for H&S (it's me who would be in court if a fork lift driver ran into someone) and usually the person who translates employment law for the others.

Our Birmingham factory was a remote site, so the work there was often done by whoever is there at the time.

    You said this:

'If celebrating Christmas added any risk whatsoever to our club's chances of success I would'.

They broke the rules and added a risk to the clubs chances of success. Therefore you should hate them, Reggie and Christmas as a whole. What is it about them and our black, Muslim player Aurier that makes a difference to you, if both actions create risks?

Bemrahma broke his fast during the game and absolutely bossed it up to then too. It really doesn't impact their performances.

I don't find those emotions, or cognitions, wasted at all. Ten out of ten, would emote again, would recommend to a friend.

I agree to an extent that participants help maintain religions, including the harmful aspects of religion. But people partake in harmful aspects of loads of things without me thinking it fair to direct my misgivings towards individual participants.

There's loads of harm incoming from global warming, but I don't think it would be fair to attack you for driving a car. I think it's fair to attack those in authority with real power to make positive changes.

There's loads of harm from the version of capitalism we have. I know we disagree on what the solution for that would be, but I think we agree that there are problems with at least some of the current structures. I don't think it's fair to blame the individual consumer for participating in the system. I think it's fair to blame those in charge.

In all cases kind, emphatic conversations with individuals about the possibility of changing one's behaviour to the better, if that's something they're interested in, is fine. Direct criticism, name calling, ridicule of individuals is a no go for me.

The song you quoted is not an example of what you did, quite something different. I haven't seen Aurier defend any harmful aspects of religion, he's participating.

If Aurier came out and said people shouldn't ridicule the Pope we would have a different conversation.

I don't think that's a valid conclusion. It's possible that in some cases it doesn't impact performance, but we can't know that will always be the case.

It's up to the managers and clubs to choose how to deal with it if it does impact performances. As I think they do.

It's fair to discuss on a message board how the club should deal with it. Direct attacks, name calling, ridicule... I wish we were better than that, but we're obviously not. I'm happy it doesn't go uncontested when it happens on this corner of the internet at least.

I’m not sure forcing employees to take leave is legal.... You could find yourself in trouble here Scara... Even more so as you are discriminating on religious grounds.

If you really have done this (and I don’t believe you would actually be so stupid) then I suggest you stop doing so immediately and keep your fingers crossed that an employee doesn’t contact an employment lawyer now or at some point in the future.

I really do hope so.... This sort of practice was going on in the 1970s but I had hoped that in the 21st century with us now having some pretty tight employment laws we wouldn’t still be seeing flagrant racial and religious discrimination in the workplace.

Blimey, I’ve seen some threads veer away from the subject but this is next level. Especially considering this was one of our more entertaining performances this season:D....

I think Scara is trying to deflect away from us looking much better already having got rid of Mourinho by making up some stories of intentional discrimination of the basis of religion in his workplace (at least I hope that's what's happening here anyway) :D

Looking at what i saw from the game, you do start to wonder what might have been in games vs the bottom 7/8 teams of Jose had dared to do and played more pressing/attacking against such teams instead of the cowardly low-block he constantly did...you don't have to play Bale every week but you'd imagine him making the difference in several of those games and we'd be much closer to Chelski....sigh...
