I think that it was clear last season that he was left out because of his contract situation and how he had approached that.

The same fan was telling me that Mourinho was there for the long haul until they got knocked out of the CL last season.

I agree with all that, just thinking in your scenario it might be a bit of a blow for Foyth to see the hottest CB in Europe arrive and wondering (him and me:)) where it left him.

Here's a thought: Perhaps Poch might do a bit of a Dier with Foyth ie convert to a DCM. He certainly has great technique on the ball and an eye for a pass. He could be Carrick like, a bit more of an interceptor than a tackler. And any worries about his physique might be a little less in the DCM role due to the type of player he's up against.

I think any young footballer as good as Foyth would welcome truly world class talent arriving -- it's a chance to test himself against the best. Positive attitude and self-confidence, which I'm sure Poch will be fostering in him.

Foyth, De Ligt and Sanchez as our three long term CBs would be absolutely bloody amazing. Fair point about Foyth's versatility too -- I don't see why he shouldn't be the RB in a 4, or even Dier-style DCM.

All that said, I cannot see Poch/Levy going for an expensive CB if Alderweireld is staying. We have other priorities. And even if they did, would De Ligt come anywhere near us? Any club in Europe will break the bank for him and our wage structure isn't even second tier. Still, that Ajax connection...

I think Toby and Verts are good for at least 1-2 more seasons. Sanchez is still to error prone to be a regular for us in a back four if we want to win the league. Ditto Foyth.

Shopping 4 goals, and our CB's bossed it? I fear when they have a brick game then!

The amount of balls into the box they faced and playing without a right back...

And some were saying last season that Sanchez was already better than Toby. Don’t think anyone would have been saying that had Toby signed a contract.

I hope he re-signs. But I will say that I think his positioning for the goal today was rubbish.

I don't remember anyone saying that. I do remember people saying that they could see sense in favouring a player who was committed to the club and would be Alderweireld's long term successor.

Depends if you have a Spurs life outside of GG?

(And that's not letting us GG lot off the hook either..btw)

Without being an expert on Cb positioning Sanchez’s didn’t appear to be any better? He let Augero pull away and was caught in no mans land allowing a free header for Augero to put across the goal for Foden. Neither of the two had a player marked so looks unfair to single out Toby to me....

I didn't mention Sanchez as it's the Toby thread. Sanchez was also poor on the goal, I agree. I think Toby was worse though, imo he needlessly went into the area he was and that allowed Foden a free run in there.

De light would be a great signing for us, along with Foyth, Sanchez we would /should be covered going forward.
