TOTTENHAM are in the preliminary stages of securing a deal for Ajax star Toby Alderweireld.

That's according to the Belgian star's father Vic, who also revealed Spartak Moscow were currently locked in negotiations with the Dutch champs.

He was quoted by Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad as saying: "Both teams are negotiating.

"If they come to an agreement, then we go around the table.

"After the weekend we will sit down together anyway to scroll through his options."About ten days ago we heard through the grapevine that Tottenham would take anything, but that's just preliminary. "

Both Everton and Liverpool are thought to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract.

Alderweireld made 45 appearances last season scoring four times as he and Ajax secured their third successive league title.

Ten days ago = just after Monaco friendly = Livermore and Fryers at CB.

Yes, I think we would take anything as an alternative after that...

Seriously, this guy and Jan building a Belgian understanding for the future. Get in that Huddleclone with the Afro from Everton to sit in front of the back four and we are locked up at the back Van Damme style.
 
Jesus, I used to enjoy playing that old parlour game 'name a famous Belgian' and the game would finish after about 6 names were mentioned... I'd always win because I memorised all six of them! Now you could go on and on with Spurs targets alone!

Blimey if this guy came in too, with Pjanic,Lamela and Coentrao as part of any Bale transfer this surely would be the window of all windows for us

But imagine if Bale stayed for another season too - that would be pretty mental all that.
 
Arsenal are planning a raid on Ajax for Tottenham Hostpur target Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgium international defender has recently been linked with moves to Everton, Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Spurs.

Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow are also thought to have held talks with the player's agent.

However Alderweireld, 24, is understood to prefer a move to the Premier League and would link up with international team-mate Thomas Vermaelen should he join Arsenal.

Ajax are expected to accept offers in the region of £6 million for a player whose contract is due to expire at the end of next season.

Afer Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis promised big-name signings this summer Arsenal have only brought in French youngster Yaya Sanogo, whilst 10 first-team players have left the club.

In the wake of Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa, Gunners fan group Where Has Our Arsenal Gone has written an open letter to Gazidis, describing the lack of transfer activity as “a disgrace”.

Saw yesterday that some Arsenal supporters asked the question why Wenger didnt go in for Capoue after his sub apperance yesterday.
One of them answered: "He would be 4th choice with us - at best".
