The transfer window thread.

Just popping in to see if there's any last minute deals. Can't say I'm too upset to miss out on Ighalo.

Tom Carroll’s contract at Swansea has been terminated with immediate effect.

The 27-year-old's deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, and leaves the Swans having made 103 appearances and scoring three goals

Id have rather got him than nobody (up top). We now have another 10 weeks with Moura/Son up top. Maybe Bergwijn will get some time up there but I would have preferred a proper centre forward to fill in for Harry.

Disappointed we didn’t manage to get a number 9, but looking at what United and Chelsea have managed to do shopping in the same market with more cash to spend shows how difficult it must be.
We now have 5 new faces available for the first team since the summer, all seem to be young technical proficient players, plus the bonus of Of Tanganga’s emergence means the squad should be refreshed after being allowed to stagnate during the stadium build.
We still have a few experienced heads at the back, perhaps with more legs around them we can start keeping clean sheets - we look like we are setting up to counter which works a lot better if you’re not chasing the game.

.

Yes, this is my take on it too. Add in Clarke to that too given he'll be in the first team squad next year and we've added 3 players in each of the last 2 windows. Its difficult to expect more than that.

The only issues are that releasing Llorente looks like an error, and that the refresh of teh squad should have started 12 months earlier.

If we add another 3 players in the summer - perhaps a CB, DM and a CF - and get rid of some of the players past their sell-by-date (Rose, Wanyama, Jan etc) then the squad should be in a decent state for next season. I fear though that they'll be playing in the EL, rather than CL

Utd are hedging their bets, OGS won't be there in the summer, so wait until the new man comes in.
Chelsea are exceeding expectations so have time to look about.
