The transfer thread

Lamela is a waste of a squad space. Bale also looks a shadow of his former self. Moura is at least pretty much always available. Of those three he is a long way above the deadwood that the other two are I think and I would keep him as back up for Bergwijn.

Think if we are bringing someone else in, all three can go.

I imagine Levy has been spending the past week looking for a way out of Bale deal

ZZ was clearly right

It feel like it's been a while. Probably the last good ones, Zola, Vialli, di Canio and Sanchez if you allow for a quick stop off at the Nou Camp.

I still think there is some really good talent in Italy, especially from South America like Martinez at Inter, Dybala and Bentancur from Juve.
Well that Salah guy hasn’t done too badly....

There are exceptions, but without seeing a list I’ve always felt that Serie A seems to be a league that is more difficult to transition from to the Prem, or at least require different attributes to be successful in. I’m not even sure what it is, it just feels like the higher profile signings have struggled to live up to their reputations although I’ve not seen any analysis on how many transfers there have been.
I think potentially a slower paced less physical more technical style, yet Erisken and Bergkamp excelled here but struggled in short spells in Italy.

As @milo suggested, you can’t judge a signing solely on the league they play in, even internal moves within the league can make a player seem completely different. Sometimes being part of a dominant and successful team can make an individual appear better than what they are, some players thrive on responsibility. The longer a player spends at one club the more comfortable they become, trusted by manager, players and even fans where theyve earned the right for patience (I think about the difference with Keane who was consistently good for us, taken to another level for a season with the Berbs partnership, then came the ill fated short spell at at Liverpool and he came back broken)

Kaka another one who springs to mind, didn’t seem to have anywhere near the impact expected at Madrid based on what he did at Milan.
It’s why I lean towards Ronaldo in the Messi debate, due to doing it in different leagues and at different clubs. Finally a word for Zlatan, no CL wins but surely the player to have delivered in the widest variety of top leagues?

It would be interesting to see whether that transfer would get through the new work permit rules

It is funny that the PL seems to have its own unique visa rules. Is that correct? If a normal business wanted to bring over a US specialist worker, they wouldn't have any trouble doing so. Is it the FA or the government imposing different rules?

The FA developed a proposal that the government agreed. Basically, you need to be a regular international or play in a good league. There is a get out for major talents which I assume we'd have to argue with Araujo.

The PL would be fine on the normal work permit rules because it is mainly based on salary.

Some rumour on Twitter from a source I've not heard of before that we're interested in loaning Eder Militao from Real for the reason of the season.

Mobile CB which is pleasing...but yet another non-HG player. I assume he's played in Europe this season already anyway

That doesn't matter any more. Too inconvenient for the big clubs, so they changed it.

We're linked with an awful lot of foreign players! Need to sort out the H/G quota pretty soon. Gazzagniga, Lamela and Sanchez are the obvious ones to ship out if possible.

I guess it depends on who we bring in, if we bring in a winger then maybe one of Moura or Lamela will go, CB then Sanchez, etc..

We must have some player sales out quite close to even be considering bring in a few more faces.
It's been quite a quiet window so far in general though hey?

Not sure how much will be done now vs. summer but more changes to come

- I think Sanchez, Gazza, Gedson, Lamela (he really will never be fit) are almost certainly out ( a few non HG spots there)
- Dele and Winks maybe?
- Could be question mark on Sissoko due to age

What do we need

- Top level CB, one that can play left side and hopefully has pace (Sanchez not in plans, and Toby getting older)
- Creative midfield as well as a PEH backup
- New Keeper, Hugo getting older and the PSG/Paris retirement fund might look very tempting to him.
