We had been in title race for 2 consecutive season without being in top place. It seems, just like the FA Cup Final, 1st place in the league is a jinx to us. If we can overcome that and move into 1st place at least for 1 week, I think we can stay there ! Poor ManCity, they were running away with the title until they lost to us and they never recovered from that. Would have preferred ManCity to won the league title instead of our traditional rivals like Chelsea.

A jinx? Or a sign of steady progression?

There's no such thing as jinxes. We're just trying to do something difficult with half the resources of our direct competitors.

I agree its not down to jinxes that we have not done better, nor is it down to bent Refs, dodgy keepers, biased FA, Sky tv, etc, etc, But it will not stop some fans from suggesting it.

-----------------------------
TOTAL SEASONS = 82
-------------------------------

A third of our top 5 finishes have come since 2005-06.

I think the colour coding (blocks of six seasons) illustrates the improvement in recent years.

Interesting. Presumanly the total number of goals has also gone down pro rata?

Daresay your question is mainly tongue-in-cheek but Bale departed in Summer 2013 whereas the downward trend in both total shots and shots from range gathered the greatest momentum in 2014/15, ie the second season after he'd gone.

My guess is that teams are increasingly keeping more men behind the ball.

So maybe the Leicester City effect?

Maybe we should have an outfield player as captain, because now it is only the captains that can speak to the ref at any length, so we need someone outfield who can talk to/put a bit of pressure on the ref. I think Dier would be a good choice.

i have always thought a captain should be a outfield player ( CM is the best place imo), goalkeepers are to far away from most of the action usually.

Kane need 22 goals to overtake Sheringham as our all-time PL leading goal scorer. Similiarly, Alli need 21 goals to overtake Armstrong and become our 5th leading PL goal scorer. Hope both Kane and Alli can achieve that next season. In contrast, it reflects very poorly on Janssen, havng only scored 2 goals which is only 1 goal more than our ex goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Eriksen needs 11 more assists to overtake Lennon's record 49 assists for us. But remember, Lennon achieved this over 10 years for us while Eriksen did this in 4 years. It is clear, Eriksen has been more consistent for us when it comes to assisting goals. Similiarly, Lamela needs 8 more assists to overtake Bale's 25 assists for us. I think Lamela would have achieved that if he had not been out for the majority of this season.

Maybe we should have an outfield player as captain, because now it is only the captains that can speak to the ref at any length, so we need someone outfield who can talk to/put a bit of pressure on the ref. I think Dier would be a good choice.

Kane fills that role. Refs frequently pull him over.

Below is the combined goals + assists using the numbers in the above posts by Spurs7891. A question, though: is the assists list complete? There are a lot less players with assists and can Sheringham really have zero?
