The Right Back Thread

I think Arsenal will take on more debt to provide transfer funds to the manager. Their debt position is extremely low compared to ours with them having a very similar turnover to us so this would be a sensible move for them as a net buyer to take advantage of the likely depressed transfer fee market this summer.
Maybe
But they have to attract those players too
I don’t see it happening
It will be like last summer for them
Selling to buy

We sold Bale at peak and brought in 8 players or so. He was never replaced. We sold Walker, he was never truly replaced.
The Magnificent Seven… if Lamela hadn’t become so injury prone then we would’ve had 2 good signings from that windfall.

Had we managed to shift Eriksen at his peak for similar money that Dippers got for Coutinho then we could’ve signed a LCB of van Dijk’s / Dias’ calibre and had enough money left over for a Cancelo / Wan-Bissaka…

If and if and if, hindsight, everyone can flex. Truth is, we don't have a proper RW in 8 years. Same to story with RB. Thanks for the photo.

Handling of Eriksen was poorly done even without hindsight. The guy had lost all motivation and was not in the first eleven for poch towards the end of his stay with us.

Liverpool didn't have hindsight to sell peak coutinho and strengthen. That's what proper clubs do, take calculated risks but mitigate with experienced football folks.

It was easy for pool as they had an motivated buyer and a player who wanted to go
We didn’t have any buyers for Eriksen

If only Eriksen had managed to find it within himself to put in a vintage performance for the CL final then he might’ve got his dream move; like how Hazard tore apart ARSEnal in EL final the previous week which ensured Madrid wanted him and garnered Chavski a £140m transfer fee that paid for the replacements who subsequently helped win them another CL.

Mmm hmm. That's a nice summary of something from another time that has nothing to do with my question. Look forward, hombre. It's the only way to make progress.

So fcukin' cliche and lame.

Why don't you put forward a positive point we can actively discuss instead of lobbing lameness at this subject?

Because you can't?

So Aurier looks off to PSG, Doherty showed no signs of being good enough, Tanganga (probably the best of the options) isn't a specialist RB and can't cross. So we need to invest. I would sell Doherty and combine the money from Aurier to pick up Max Aarons from Norwich. Tanganga to share the minutes in Europa games etc.

Aarons would be very poor value at the likely £30m transfer fee.

Would be my pick if we are buying a RB, good young player with Prem experiance and also can play on the left if required.

Ridle Baku from Wolfsburg would be my pick. Can play right and left back and in midfield. Has Kante levels of energy, quick and decent technique too.
