Well that does defeat my point. My point is the obvious ones are obvious. So it's not so much that I am excellent at spotting stars, that's easy, it's that I am very good at spotting players who most other people think are going to be stars and saying they won't be stars.
As I said elsewhere in the thread I will definitely be keeping an eye on Nick Powell. I like him a LOT. The others I've seen that I like the look of are what you'd almost certainly call obvious. Luke Shaw, Adnan Januzaj (based on just that one game), Raheem Sterling (although I think he may go the way of a Lee Sharpe unfortunately for him) and Ross Barkley (really like this kid). Zaha has impressed me too, but I don't think he will be top top drawer. But he may well attain the level of someone like a Theo Walcott. I really liked Phil Jones but he needs to find a specialised role and be allowed to grow there. I think he could be a very special player. And Oxlade-Chamberlain is also very good, but again not sure he will ever be top top quality. It could even be fairly argued that Jones and Chamberlain are big now, let alone the future.
Edit : And "huge" is also relative. For example, for me Messi is huge. Gerrard is not, and never has been. And yet Gerrard is a great player. So if you are asking me which ones of those are going to go on to be regarded as the best in the world, or close to the best in the world? I'd say none of them. But I do think they'll all go on to become regulars in their respective international teams if they stay fit and out of trouble.

I think Delph will still be a star, he's improved a lot this season and I think that he's about to unlock his potential. Otherwise Barkley and Shaw are the stand outs.
I think Sterling will fade away, I really don't think he has it about him to be a long term success.

There was someone who used to post on here called The Moonlit Knight who was adamant that Tom Huddlestone was a championship player at best when he first broke on to the scene with us, I can remember arguing against that one! Anyway Tom went on to do pretty well in the Champs League, a team that finished and regularly fought for 4th and played for England.

Huddlestone was a good player but to say that he was an England player is a bit of an inflation. Both Caulker and Livermore were recognised by England and yet each of those players really aren't top level Premiership players.
I think Huddlestone had a great pass on him but his inconsistency, mixed and caused by injuries, led him to not being the player that perhaps some thought he could have been.

I just said that he played for England, which he did. The point was really that he was far from being a Championship player which was what he was claimed to be. He's played his career at a top 5 premiership club and was CM in the team that got us top 4, I don't think any Championship level players could do that.

I watch Brighton a fair bit as i have a couple of mates who are season ticket holders, caskey-forrester looks good on the ball and can pass with both feet, he now has a coach who has some confidence in him, how long that coach will be in a job im not sure, the lad has ability though and looks a lot better this season, no where near ready for the prem but maybe in a season or 2.
In the prem the Fulham lad brian luiz i may have spelt his name wrong but im sure you know who i mean, he is starting to look settled in the prem not consitent enough but a good player reminds me of how long it took dembele to find his feet. Im not a fan of dembele anymore though.

Yup, both Hudd and Livermore are borderline England material, but only Hudd is anywhere close to PL quality.
Bryan Ruiz. This is his THIRD season with Fulham and he's still inconsistent. Never gonna make it at a top team.

tend to agree with that although dembele was here in the prem before he looked any good, not saying Ruiz is great but he has caught my eye.

Huddlestone's a good player and in my view we should never have let him go. But then when you consider he is only 26 and only mid to lower Premiership sides were interested in him it's a bit strange. I think Hull are a very poor team, but there are a lot poorer teams in the Premiership this season so I think they'll stay up. If they don't then a 27 year old Huddlestone in his prime may well be playing Championship football and stay there for the rest of his career. Which is crazy considering his ability level.

I've only seen highlights. He's been getting good reviews though. Was said on the football weekly podcast that Di Canio had wanted him at Sunderland and that had he gotten Huddlestone he might still have had a job seeing how well Huddlestone had done at Hull and they seemed to genuinely think that he was a player that could make the difference and keep them up.
I would be very surprised if he ended up playing Championship football.

I think you are right. He's a top half of the PL quality player in my opinion and will get a move easily enough if Hull go down. I'd imagine concerns over his fitness are the reason why more teams weren't interested in him

Not sure that Hull outplayed Chelsea. They barely had a threatening chance and Chelsea looked dominant for the first half hour before the side took their foot off the gas.

I've been very impressed with him and Livermore in the centre there. Because of those two I have gone out of my way to try and watch as many Hull games as possible. I like Steve Bruce as a Manager too. He isn't top drawer (although it is hard to know unless he was given the opportunity to manage a big club, which is unlikely) but he does have an eye for a good player and his teams often start out competitive. Whether Hull can maintain it like Ipswich did all them years ago, or whether they'll do Blackpool is too early to say but the signs are positive that they'll stay up this year because there are just so many bad teams in the league. If they do stay up then I dare suggest that Huddlestone will be their key player. He is head and shoulders better than any other player they have there.
