The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

Arsenal - City
Chelsea - Arsenal
Arsenal - West Ham
Cardiff - Arsenal

Hopefully they'll lose at least a couple and get kicked around a bit. West Ham might go a bit soft under the new management though.

They've given Xhaka a new contract......wow that club really are lacking ambition and going downhill fast

Emery is making the right moves, worryingly.

Not that I rate Xhaka or think Lichtensteiner is a brilliant buy, but he is clearly looking to solidify them at the back. Make them more stable, defend better. Which is what they have been desperate for for a decade.

With Ozil/Aubameyang/Lacazette etc they will always pose a goal threat, so this is smart moves by the manager.

The thing with Xhaka, like most Arsenal players, is he was hamstrung by a manager who didn't really work on tactics or set teams up with a game plan - very much a 'go and express yourself' type, which doesn't work for all players - give Xhaka and co. a manager with a plan and they'll look a lot better

Thats my thinking. He looks like he is going to work on making them solid, precisely the thing Wenger neglected all these years.

Someone like Xhaka could well look a much more competent player in a system that works for him rather than exposes him.

He was highly regarded in Germany when they signed him so i very much doubt what we have seen of him so far is a fair reflection of his ability and i believe he is on record commenting on how they used to prepare (much more than at Arsenal) for their upcoming games and he had explicit instructions as to what to do throughout the game etc, with the implication being that wasn't how things were done under Wenger - i believe Schezny has said similar things since moving to Italy
