The Game Is About Glory - The Difference Makers

milo

Jack L. Jones
Season 2 Episode 14

This week @thfcsteff, @ricky2tricky4city, @AuroRaman and @milo discuss the historic moment that they met at the Lane for a day out against the Villa, whether Dele's in a dead-end alley, how the Son always shines brightest and who Amy Winehouse lovingly referred to as 'Elvis' regularly. All this and Milo reveals he wishes Steff had petted him with the same vigour as he employed on the bomb sniffing spaniel by Northumberland Park; whiskey business! Don't deny yourselves the pleasure...

Another fun listen, just wish I could meet up with you all next time I'm in the country and going up to the game!

Someone said I looked like the karate kid or ralph macchio of Charles in charge fame

We played really well overall versus Villa, we worked hard and looked motivated. Romero is a Rolls Royce of a defender, and sooo young! We gotta build a strong foundation with him, I wonder which keeper we'll have after Lloris leaves next season though. Ndombele created so well, Son was captain like driving forward... and yeah Kane was off even though he worked hard, he didn't look as driven as previous years.

Seems 4-2-3-1 is the go to formation, I'd like to see 3 CDs and both fullbacks bombing forward as an alternative...

Lloris comes back after winning another trophy with the national team, hope this time it rubs off on us.

I'd like to see us move for André Onana in January. He's out if contract at the end of the season and serving a ban until February, so I doubt that he'd be expensive. I'm thinking beyond Nuno here, but if we want to be a possession team again and/or improve our press resistance, we need a keeper who is comfortable on the ball again.

I thought he was truly awful against us in the CL semi-final, particularly the second leg. Small sample size, so assuming there are good things that I’ve missed?

I wasn't particularly impressed in those games either. He's been good the other times that I've watched him and his stats are very good, particularly if you are looking for a ball playing GK who can start attacks. I think that we'll be hard pressed to find better value in the market and it is a position that we do need to strengthen.

Isn’t he signing for Inter
I think he is decent but over hyper IMO
Sam Johnson would be better for us

Johnson is a decent shot stopper. My point was that if we want to be press resistant and play a possession game in the future, we need a keeper who is comfortable playing out from the back, Johnson isn't that keeper. Onana is being heavily linked with Inter but I don't think that it's been done yet. Out if contract in the summer and after the drugs ban, he's going to be a steal for some club.

who says we want to play press resistant
We haven’t played that way in some time and it may not be the plan going forward
I do agree Onana is good with his feet
Did you see a Johnson’s assist for Grealish the other day? Quality play

That's why I said "if". It's clearly not the preferred approach of the current or last coach but I would like us to return to trying to control the game.

Overall, I don't see much evidence of a preferred style of play from our recruitment of players or managers. I am hoping that this is something that Paratici puts right.

I’m sure it’s what Paratici is trying to do
It’s hard to judge over such a short period but it’s the benefit of having a DOF in place

It's never a negative to be press resistant no matter the system or philosophy employed. It's obviously more important in some than others of course.

Didnt say it was
But it’s also not how we play currently
Well let me rephrase that. It’s not something that appears to be a priority for us
