The Cricket Thread

Think it’s purely to hammer home the gulf between the two teams. Trolling us!

Instead of winning by an innings or at worst the openers have to come back to hit a nominal winning total of less than 100, they get to practice batting with little pressure, batsmen can hit some milestone scores and our fielders and bowlers toil for longer, with pressure on every catching opportunity.

Batsman then come in with an unreachable score on the board, most without a score to their name yet and they scratch around purely to delay the inevitable, with every ball cheered by the home crowd.

For us to compete we needed to be at the top of our game in all areas. Bowling hasn’t been bad but I feel the selections have been odd, fielding obviously poor so this has allowed bigger scores / momentum to be built by Oz, batting other than 3 and 4 (who’ve come in far earlier than we’d want) has been brittle and as much as he’s the stand out player I do feel Root’s captaincy is a weakness and given how poor the rest of the batsmen have been we may as well get a specialist captain in who doesn’t trouble the scorers!
 
Batting has been shocking for ages, how many times have we got 400+ in the last few years. Root is always facing the new ball.
 
I quite enjoy the Aussie commentators. Trying - not very hard, mind - to deliver an objective assessment but never failing to slip in the sly digs and p1sstakes.

I know. I can fcuk right off, eh? I'd like to see a more competitive series. Loved the sprinkler dance episode a decade back. Have to content myself picturing the slow-building, tormenting rage Piers macaron is living within these days.

it’s always frustrating when the fight comes too late and if we didn’t have the sexy loss of Root in the final over we may have got close to scraping a draw. IF (and I’ll be hitting the exchanges to try and tempt the cricket gods into a miracle) they did pull this off it makes that decision not to enforce the follow on look even more odd.
