He's still living in the 50's. You might be surprised to know just how many people are.

Group socialising is a global thing. The settings differ between countries and cultures.

Havnig to be part of a boozy lads culture should not have any impact on being able to do a job you are highly skilled at. This is a very clear form of discrimination when it happens. It is antithetical to the freedoms we hold on to valuably in this country. My country.

    Agreed.
It's certainly been the case for years that certain non-work related behaviours would see your chances of success rise in a number of industries. And those behaviours are less present in some cultures than others. Which causes tension in a multi-cultural society.

Professional sports people and a booze culture, i mean jeez.
It's almost as if it is being allowed because it discourages minorities.
Why are clubs allowing this to happen, this is so wrong on so many levels that it is scary. And not excluvise to cricket.

The tensions caused when someone is different are due to intolerance. Cultures change. It just seems when it comes to certain things there is inflexibility due to deep lying disdain of certain groups.

Be fair. In some places the booze culture was around way before minorities were any sort of consideration

I understand the historical angle, but in the last 20 years this really should have been eradicated by now, at top level at least.

Not necessarily. He is still right to have held YCCC to account, an institution that even in recent times has variously ignored, denied and then downplayed the racism within.
He's also within his rights to hold to account the individuals who made racist comments towards him and other Asian players. He has said that those players who have apologised to him for their words deserve a second chance, so it's not as though he is being vindictive. Equally it's absolutely right that he himself is held to account for his postings. Which he is being. And he has apologised for them.

Unfortunately it will be used by some to decry what he has endured and to detract from the wider message of racism within the sport, which is a huge shame. He's going to get criticised and he is going to have to live with that, along with everything else he has been through.
The important thing is that the wheels of change that have been set in motion over the course of the past week continue to turn.

There would be a delicious irony in him using the "just banter" excuse.
