Andy Zaltzman
Test Match Special statistician

That is the first time ever in a home Test match that both England openers have been out for a duck.

Quite a record to take home lads.

If it was going to happen it was going to be those two. Burns just about does enough to be given an other chance but you know he'll fail again before getting a scrappy 40 to save his bacon.

Lost the plot this morning, completely threw away the test match. Surprised as Root is pretty experienced now and Jimmy should also have been a calm head.

buzzing off the back of yesterday. Streamed the final wicket on way home from work. What a game to swing from one side to another.

Bumrah and Shami had test averages of 11 and 3. Insane England let them win the game.

Can't see it going ahead if I'm honest
The Ashes tour brings in $400m to the Aussies coffers, no fans means no money
Also players will go almost 6 months without seeing they families and I don't blame them

I've heard nothing about it being cancelled. There's roughly a million Brits like me living here, so filling Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney etc isn't difficult. I expect the MCG won't be full all days but the others will. My tickets are within the Barmy Army section at Adelaide and Melbourne.

Yea sounds like it’s in the balance. Like you say you can’t blame the players for not wanting to go if their families are being refused entry by Australia. There’s no way I’d leave my daughter for 4-6 months!

Before intercontinental air travel it was always 4 months away without your family in Australia.
