The Cricket Thread

I can’t believe Butler has only got one century in over forty tests. I know he has his critics, but he can be a special player on his day and should have more to show for it than one century.

Wasn't he batting further down the order a couple of years back, though? Might go some way to explaining it.

Foster, now there was a wickie!!! Just a shame his batting wasn’t quite up to international standard (prob equivalent ability to a Dom Bess, good, but you want your Wk batting higher really?).

But he would take the chances and therefore the deficit would be 50_75 less so there's the batting average. He had to make up the deficit he caused which is why he has to be a batting wickie

If a Fosie has snaffed them chances earlier we are likely to have won earlier

I fail the Tebbit test during this fixture. I'm England for everything except this game where my loyalties go the way my father raised me. The love of Pakistan cricket.

This reminded me, I did an online test/quiz a few years back, 'who are you in British politics' or some similar such name. It probably won't surprise you too much to learn that, according to the result, 'I'm'...you guessed it! :D

Those things are very interesting. I'm a bit of centrist really as I have socialist ideals but I value hard work and the free market too.

Harmer being well Harmer for Essex
14 wickets in the match, he is probably the best off spinner in world cricket
Does he qualify for England soon hahaha

I think he does or is at least within 6 months of being able to

Essex are the county games super power now and I love it

We’ve the perfect mix of retired test players, not quite good enough for test players and the best kolpak in the business! So our side doesn’t get decimated every summer like the likes of Surrey and Yorkshire.

Yeh perfect storm and built on a tiny budget compared to others.

Some could play test but get over looked thankfully

Victory at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton will secure England a first series win over Pakistan in 10 years.

The hosts have made one change to their squad with uncapped Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson, 26, replacing all-rounder Ben Stokes, who will miss the match and the series finale after flying to New Zealand for family reasons.

Batsman Zak Crawley will likely replace Stokes in the batting order, but Root said he would not confirm his starting XI until the toss.

England will play three Twenty20s and three one-day internationals against Australia next month.

The matches, due to be played in July, were postponed as part of the restructured schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The T20s will be at Southampton's Ageas Bowl on 4, 6 and 8 September, with the second live on BBC TV

Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester will stage the ODIs on 11, 13 and 16 September.

England play T20s against Pakistan at Old Trafford on 28 and 30 August and 1 September.

England's 50-over team, who won the World Cup last year, beat Ireland 2-1 in an ODI series at Southampton that finished earlier this month.

"The rivalry between England and Australia is the pinnacle of sporting competition," said England and Wales chief executive Tom Harrison.

"These will be thrilling contests and a perfect way to culminate the men's international season in this extraordinary summer."

I care about 20/20 about as much as i care about beach cricket. Test is where it’s at.

WTF is happening to the summer weather in the south of England? Third test is an absolute write off.
We've had a good few weeks, the past end of week and some of next is awful

This test has been great but tests cricket needs more robust weatherproofing because of all the downtime.
Don't mind limited over 20/50 not seen any 100 ball yet.
