Tennis thread

Some great games last night - Djokovic saved 4 match-points against Tsonga and came back to win 3:2. The Frenchman didn't put a foot wrong and played some of his best tennis so it must have been devastating. Shame.

Federer came back from 2 sets down to defeat Del Potro who appeared to be struggling with a knee injury. Amazing stamina from Roger who has now equalled Connors' record of 31 GS semi-finals!

Murray up against Ferrer later today for a spot in the semis while Nadal faces in-form Almagro who's won 2 titles already this year. Slightly off topic - but why does Murray wear those brick-ugly black trainers and socks - really doesn't suit him at all?

Epic tennis

Murray is such a fudging bottle job

Fights hard to get a break off Ferrer

Does it, and then hand his own service game back without winning a point

Loser

British public being their disgraceful self. Yet praise a lazy bastard like the queen for her patriotic service. Mad.

So fights hard and is a bottle job at the same time. Ok.

I thought you'd be banned by now!

Ok, I'll reword:

It takes him 16 sweaty games to FINALLY find a way to break his opponent, and then he fudging GIVES him a free game

He's his own worst enemy

Like pritt stick, he's great on paper. Just brick on any other surface

Ferrer is the 2nd best clay court player in the world. But Murray is brick? Right. The lack of knowledge is stunning.

Must be grand slam time, the know nothing tennis "fans" are out in force. Just think we have to put up with the same sort of football "fans" for the next few weeks as well

Del Potro is not that great on clay, Southstand. Plus he's forever injured lately (shame because he's a massive natural talent and still very young). Ferrer is in tremendous form this year having won 3 title already with a 34-7 record ! He's not exactly a wild-card player

Don't waste your time. fudging trolls abound.

Before he withdrew from Madrid (hip problem), Del Potro was 7-0 on clay

When he played at Garros in 2009, he reached the semi finals and gave Federer the fright of his life in a 5 set thriller.

Played ok against him this year too

Troll indeed :ross:

Spaceman, don't let this shock you but - Tennis DOES exist beyond the Grand Slam media over-saturated world of 4 events per year.

The Tour is further divided into 1000 events (number of ATP points the winner receives) - also known as Masters Series - ATP 1000 followed by ATP 500 and ATP 250. Beyond that you have Challengers and Futures for up-and-coming players (100th ranked and below or anyone else who wishes of course, etc.)

Have a look at the official ATP 2012 calendar - excluding Davies Cup event there are around 50 such tournaments!. To win any of these Premium ATP events (all the way down to 250s) is a great achievement in any pros career and is often, very, very tough. Any Top 100 player on his day can defeat a Top 10 seed - that happens fairly often in fact. Don't let this Grand Slam supremacist flimflam brainwash you much like CL football does this days, mate.
