And I don't think many teams do the park the bus routine. 5 years ago we'd get 8/9 teams doing that at the Lane, but with the onset of system managers (eg Brighton, Villa, Sheff u, Wolves, Fulham etc) it's just doesn't happen as much, as those teams can transition with quality and purpose.

Just us and West Brom really:D

It's fudging entertaining to watch him drunken master past players.

I swear players press him early in a game, get fudging embarrassed when he rolls them, then later in the game refuse to get close out of fear of looking stupid.

I love him. Dont think you should ever build a team round one player. But to me he is the best player in the team and he symbolises why i love football. Beautiful player.

You don't necesairly need to build a team around one player but structuring it to get the best out of your more elite players makes a lot of sense.

Yeah certainly, especailly as that player has truly world class attributes. You should have a style of play imbeeded in a side, my chosen style would be very similar to the Poch years. 2 Very fast full backs 2 centre halves and then 2 holding midfielders a creative midfielder given the license to roam and a player running late into the box. Ndombele is absolutely outstanding and i think will get better and could truly help take us places.

One of the things I like that the Southampton manager has done is not only make sure the youth teams play the same way as the first team(all clubs have done this) but to make them train at different times to the first team so that more of the youth team can train with the first team and so that he and the coaching staff can watch both training sessions. Of course in training they should work on tactics so that if plan a is not working in a match thhey have a plan b.

For the sheer fun of it and because i am bored this is how i would line up for next season

    Lloris(other if we can afford)

    Tangana Rodon

    Aarons(spence,or eyoma) Regulion(Sess)

    Kessie(Zakaria)

    Holberg Ndombele

    Auora(lyon player)

    Kane Son

If we could afford to try and sign Konsa or Ben White I would go for it but im guessing with them being English the is a premium to it. It is a shame we sort of stopped our policy of buying young British players because it made good financial sense and also it is now because of Brexit even more important.

Collins at Stoke looks a very good player who will make it at the top level as a centre half. I think going down a league you can see Tucker at Gillingham has everything to get to the top level, i am not saying he will make it as so much can go wrong. But if we signed him for 2m and then loaned him to a championship club for a season, then the following year loan him to a lower level prem club i honestly think he will end up where Konsa is now. Being talked about as a 50m player. Im sure you could sell it to the player that this is what we had in mind with your career.

If we went back down that path that we used to do of targeting talented British youngsters then I think we would do better then we are and you can then sign really good players like Auora from Lyon, i watch a lot of french football and that guy is good. A sprinkling of talented players in a squad like Ndombele, Aoura and kane and son and I think we would have a really good team again.

Great player who is getting better and better, I like him slightly deeper. Not necessarily getting the ball from defenders but in that inbetween space.

Such a shame we've not had PEH, Le Celso and Tanguy all fit and firing at the same time.

Le Celso will never be fit for more then 10 games a season, his injuries keep being different things that to me says a lot. It is more then bad luck, his body is not up to pro football.

Promising, still too many unnecessary tricks. Great talent, Mourinho looks to be doing a good job there!

I haven't really been following what people think of him in the midfield two.
But am I the only one that thinks he isn't the best at showing for the ball and offering options.
He's great when he gets it but doesn't seem to ever be in the right position to receive it.

Interesting observation, can't say I've noticed (will look out for it more), but it's one of those things I miss about being at games, in person much easier to see off the ball movement vs. tv.

I agree, the number of things we do not get to see on TV are numerous compered to being at the game.

Maybe it's instruction. Hojbjerg always makes that little half movement to be available. Ndombele doesnt.
I've heard people describe Ndombele like a mix of Modric and Dembele.
    He is nothing like Luka.

No, he's nothing like Luka (haha, he can shoot, Luka used to hit the ball like a little girl, probably the only thing he wasn't great at)

    - He's brilliant in tight spots
    - He passes the ball hard/with pace
    - He can break the line (the resemblance to Dembele, that and how hard he is to dispossess, but Dembele did it more by shielding and physical strength)

I honestly can't think of a player Ndombele reminds me off, just his drunken master brick alone makes him unique.

I believe Hojberg is being instructed to take the ball off the backline with Ndombele supposed to be slightly ahead to help progress the ball.

We have seen Ndombele be the initial receiver a few times, I think it was the Everton match where he seemed to be the player available most often and we did play rather well attacking wise in that match.

I will say that since he's played in CM we have seen an in tandem improvement in the general possession and territorial play. We're creating more chances and have longer spells of control, it is working. But we we still lack the balance of having an AM in the side. It's great Ndombele helps out deeper but when the play does move forward we are lacking in a possessional connecting player with eye for a killer ball.

The side is still missing an Eriksen. Some hope for Lo Celso to be that guy I'm not sure I'm convinced that's exactly his playstyle but he is probably the most suitable in terms of fit.

I can see tanguy and Lo Celso switching it up a lot which could really help us
I am contended that we may try and shoe horn lo Celso in at right wing again though
