Well despite today's all round s***ness, things are positive at Spurs. A hell of a new players to bed in, and so so many options.

We still have many variances of formations which people prefer from 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, and dare I say 4-4-2?!

But we have new players who could play in multiple positions too. So how would you like to see us lineup with the squad we have? Right now, with no real prior knowledge of Eriksen and Lamela (other than youtube compliations and reading opinions) my favoured lineup I'd quite like to see is:

    ------------------Lloris--------------------
    Walker---Kaboul-----Vertonghen----Rose
    -----------Sandro-----Paulinho------------
    ----Lamela------Holtby----------Eriksen--
    ------------------Soldado------------------

But I have this horrible feeling when I don't include Lennon because I suddenly feel the likes of Eriksen, Lamela and Holtby may be able to really utilise his pace and use it to unlock defences.

    So maybe

    ------------------Lloris--------------------
    Walker---Kaboul-----Vertonghen----Rose
    -----------Sandro-----Paulinho------------
----Lennon------Lamela----------Eriksen-- <-- Or Lamela Right, Eriksen central and Lennon left?
    ------------------Soldado------------------

This should be interesting because I think our views may all wildly differ with so many squad options now, and most of us very unsure on who falls into our best XI.
There's Siggy, Holtby, Townsend, Dembele, Chiriches, Dawson, Adebayor, Defoe all to consider. So so many options.

Adebayor playing as the main striker also interests me greatly with the new players.

So how do you guys see it?

Assuming that we don't make any more signings and that BAE is sold or remains out of favour I would like to see the following for our next match:

    -------------Lloris-------------
    Walker-Kaboul-Vertonghen-Rose
    -----------Sandro-------------
    -------Paulinho-Eriksen--------
    Lamela------------------Chadli
    -----------Soldado------------

Feel free to "flip the triangle" and put Sandro and Paulinho deep with Eriksen ahead of him if it makes any of you more comfortable. More just indicating that when we attack Sandro will hold most of the time whilst Paulinho and Eriksen are given the freedom to roam forward.

I think we have to play players in the positions they played in when we were prompted to buy them. So Lamela gets the spot on the right and Eriksen gets the central spot behind the striker. Much of the team picks itself, but one area that is up for debate is that left wing/forward position. Until we know who is best there, I would be tempted to play Lennon...but then, would that leave us short on goals? We'd be relying on Lamela and Soldado for goals, coz Lennon don't score many and I gather Eriksen is more of a creator than scorer. Two good goal-scorers should be enough though.

    ------------lloris
walker---kaboul--vert---rose (give this back four time together)
------sandro---paulinho (let them develop a partnership)
--lamela----eriksen-----lennon (let the attacking quartet develop an understanding)
    ------------soldado

IMO, the above is the XI that should be starting most of our league games right now.

    Leaving a second XI of:

    ---------------friedel
    naughton--dawson--chiriches--fryers
    ---------capoue---dembele
    ---townsend---holtby-----chadli
    --------------defoe

I think we should try and keep the system the same as much as possible and really develop a specific way of playing. That seems like a fairly balanced lineup, and we can rotate players from the second XI into the first XI as and when required. When we rotate, do it like-for-like. So when Lamela is out, put Townsend in. when Eriksen is out, play Hotlby etc. Play balanced sides, keep it pretty simple and the quality of the players should take care of the rest.

Once we add that dash of creativity and get an understanding going, we are going to be a top side. And I am convinced we can have a run at the title. Nobody at Emirates Marketing Project is giving up coz they lost at Cardiff. Nobody at Utd will give up coz they lost today. We ARE good enough, now we have to give the players a chance to prove their worth.

I like the first team you posted diego. Alhough personally I still prefer Dembele to Paulinho. I wish Benny was in the team too but that's not happening.

It's Lamela at No. 10 for me as the key position:

    ------------------Lloris--------------------

    Walker---Kaboul-----Vertonghen----Rose/Levy Special

    -----------Sandro-----Paulinho------------

    ----Lennon------Lamela----------Eriksen--

    -----------------Soldado------------------

How would this improve on today?

    1. Kaboul > Dawson.
    2. Sandro > Capoue. Maybe not always, but on today's evidence.
    3. Eriksen > Chadli. Likely true given CE's experience if nothing else.
    4. Lennon = Townsend on current form, but I'd like to give Lennon one more shot.
    5. Lamela > Nobody/Dembele/whoever was supposed to be AM today.

I think that covers our major problem areas today and each is fixed with the 2 new boys coming in, and a return of old boys Kaboul, Sandro and maybe Lennon depending on his form v. Townsend.

I personally think we need to go for a Arry no fear tactic at home and play this team (depending on fitness etc)

    ---------------- Lloris

    Walker ---- Kaboul -- Verts ---- Rose

    ---------- Sandro -- Holtby

    Lamela ------- Eriksen ------- Chadli

    ------------- Soldado

That should be more than enough creativity for Soldado.

The thing I like about this lineup (as opposed to mine) is that there is one 'orthodox' flank on the right, which should give Soldado one type of service (crosses and cut-backs from the byline) and then Eriksen on the other flank, drifting in and playing tricky little passes. Lamela can basically be given a free role in the style of Bale and Paulinho can get into the box late, from deep positions.

    It could be a winner.

Personally you can have all the players you want but if the tactics arent right then those players wont perform. Look at Chelscum and how Mourinho has, even though played the likes of Oscar and Hazard etc, have become more boring.

We lack so much creativity and hopefully that will be corrected with the likes of Eriksen and Lamela but its the distance between the midfield and Soldado that is staggering. The front three were so so isolated with soldado just the lone ****in ranger up top.

Anyways im not so upset about the game but what I am concerned about is the lack of chances we create.

Buts that's because we played a negative formation or played the 4-3-3 negatively if that makes sense

We need players in the attacking third who actually want to attack. Today they just fancied around with the ball and side try anything remotely different or risky. We have to move back to a 4-2-3-1 with Dembele/Sandro/Pauline's/ Chadli playing anyone of the 2 positions and the remaining midi delves playing the attacking 3

I agree we are playing it negatively and I said this last week that the whole Capoue, Paulinho and Dembele doesnt do it for me and im hoping that changes going forward. We need Dembele alongside one of the other three 'hunks of burning love' (as everyone ****in loves to call em which unless you wanna be a ****in wimbledon doesnt make sense) and have someone more creative up front behind Soldado.

Last season we had Bale attacking with pace which meant defenses played deeper and as a result we were able to control in the middle and last thirds. This aint happening this time round hence the distance.

I agree - 4231 is so so much better.

Anyways get this out of our system and move on

It does not help when Dawson is hoofing the ball up the pitch and we always seem to go back to the keeper for him to hoof upto Soldado and lose possession even when other passes are on.

Really winds me up sometimes. We are obviously a team who are happy with the stats being high.

"We may have lost today but we had 70% of the ball"

    Or

"We lost but the positives are we had alot of shots" (Regardless of how far out we were)

Yeah, a fair few people on here defending the performance based on these kind of stats. Bottom line is we lost, and without some fantastic saves it could have been 4 or 5.

As others have said, I think we have Sandro/Capoue and Paulinho/Dembele competing for the DM and CM position respectively. Two of the four should always play, no more, no less.

Then ahead we have players who can all interchange. Don't know enough about Lamela yet to say whether he will play wing and Eriksen in the hole, or vice versa.

I suspect Lamela will play wide drifting in because we have others (Eriksen, Holtby, Sigg) who are best centrally

Chadli/Townsend for the left side, i am not too fussed at this point - but the key is playing Lamela and Eriksen in their favoured position none of this Lamela in the hole and Eriksen out left nonsense

makes you wonder what is the need to have a top class goal keeper in the first place. Its not like they are there to make top class saves against top class opposition....

but hey if the the bottom line for a performance is that we lost and therefore all losses are bad performances then i get your point
