Premier League - Paper Round: RVP agrees ?ú210k City deal

Sun, 11 Mar 07:41:00 2012

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has accepted ?ú210,000-a-week terms to join Emirates Marketing Project, according to Sunday's papers.

The Times makes the claim, although a transfer fee has yet to be agreed between the two clubs and Arsene Wenger is adamant that his star man is going nowhere.

City's mega-rich owners are willing to make him the club's highest-paid player once Carlos Tevez is off the wage bill this summer.

Wenger faces a similar situation to that with Samir Nasri last summer, as Van Persie will have only one year remaining on his contract and the Gunners' board is expected to cash in rather than allow him to walk away for free a year later.

The Netherlands international has previously refused to discuss a new contract until the conclusion of the current season.

The People reports that City will move for Gonzalo Higuain, who is rated at ?ú35m, to partner Van Persie.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Edin Dzeko is set to exit City with either Milan or Juventus the most likely destination.

The striker signed for City from Wolfsburg for ?ú27m only 14 months ago.

Jose Mourinho has snubbed a return to Chelsea, according to the back page of the Sunday Express, after signing an extension to his contract with Real Madrid which will keep him at the Bernabeu for at least another two years.

The Gunners are also looking to sign Ajax's ?ú10m-rated centre-back Jan Vertonghen. Tottenham are also interested. (Sunday Mirror)

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, fresh from poaching Sunderland's winner against Liverpool on Saturday, is linked with a ?ú4m move to Hannover. He is on loan at present but has not set the Black Cats' stadium alight. (Sunday Mirror)

The People has dark news for Wolves caretaker boss Terry Connor. Three games after he was charged with saving the club from relegation following the sacking of Mick McCarthy, club owner Steve Morgan has changed his mind and is keen to install a young boss such as Crystal Palace's Dougie Freedman or Brighton's Gus Poyet. Wolves fans protested at the home loss to Blackburn on Saturday.

As Spurs fall to a third straight Premier League loss and Harry Redknapp becomes more cranky, speculation has increased that Roy Hodgson - currently overseeing a three-match winning streak at West Brom - will instead be offered the England job.

However he has told the Express and Star that the FA should base their choice of a successor to Fabio Capello on candidates' overall body of work.

"I think we are in a business when the person who happens to be in the ascendancy in a brief moment in time is going to be the name on everyoneÔÇÖs lips," said Hodgson.

"That certainly wasnÔÇÖt the case for me during long periods of this year. Now weÔÇÖve had a couple of good results maybe my name is being thought of a little bit more highly.

"If we are talking about top quality jobs in English football, it will be a case for people to research the profile and the type of person they want to do the job.

"That should go beyond whether you have won or lost the last few games."

The local rag takes that as a hint he will stay at the Hawthorns - but with international experience and two stints at Internazionale on his CV, it could also be taken the other way.

And it has been reported widely on the internet that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was at Lille's match in Lyon on Saturday evening to watch Eden Hazard.

Nothing personal towards you THFC, but why is it people with very low post counts feel this instinct towards starting new threads? It seems to me almost like a universal law of the internet that people with <10 posts will feel a need to make a new thread on forums that just won't be quenched.
