Spurs & Covid

Firstly it’s illegal to mix households outside of work. When they are playing football they are in work. That’s a crucial difference. Secondly when they are playing football their wives aren’t playing too and they aren’t being tested either so could be carrying the virus asymptotically. Therefore the “party” increases the transmission risk. This disease spreads through contact. The greater the number of contacts the more chance of its spread.
It's illegal to drive at over 70mph. In fact, it's illegal to drive at 70mph in most conditions.

But nobody actually abides by that.

This is where simplistic rules like the ones we have don't work.

My parents can look after my children twice a week but I can't spend time with them (according to the rules).

My kids can spend all day in a classroom with their friends but we can't spend time with their parents.

I can sit in a boardroom all day with someone but our families can't socialise.

If those players are already in a bubble with those family members and are spending a few days a week in training together, there's little to no point in keeping their families apart.

Now if someone's going to make the "Every rule is sacred" argument and then live their lives to that standard, good for you. I, personally, don't think that kind of attitude is in any way compatible with modern life. But the chances are we all pick and choose the rules we abide by and that all comes from a judgement call on risk. The additional risk of those families meeting when they're already mixing through the players is very low.
It’s about reducing contacts! But you cannot eliminate them. You have to have a certain degree of mixing to keep society from collapsing. But ideally there would be no mixing at all.

What’s your point apart from being silly? Are you saying it’s ok to break the law or act unsafely?
I'm saying the vast majority of people think it's ok to break the law as they do it all the time.

Only reason this is different is the kinds of people prone to panic have got themselves in a flap over it.

If a player's family member has it then it's virtually impossible said player doesn't.

If that player is likely to transmit it to another player at a party, they'll be at least as likely to transmit it at training, around the club, in a match, etc. Then the next player's family will.almost certainly have it.

End result is exactly the same except a group of players and their families didn't get to have a party.

Wrong, plenty of families under the one roof were some members caught it and others haven't.

Great. Then it's less transmissible than we thought and the players can have their parties.
Stop trying to twist things to suit your agenda. It's very transmissible, but it doesn't mean everyone will catch it and there's no way of knowing who is likely to catch it.
Saint-Maximin and Lascelles are suffering from long term effects of Covid. It's not simply a case of catch it and get over it in a couple of weeks.
These players are risking their careers catching it with potential lung damage.

I really hope you or one of your family don't catch it and suffer a long stretch in hospital or worse, but it's probably the only you'll ever stop being a taco about Covid.

So it's about him as a footballer rather than anything to do with the party.

Both. As I said in my initial post, his idiocy in attending the party means I really can’t be arsed having him around the club any more. The odd cameo on the odd occasion he’s not injured doesn’t seem worth the bother.

I do wonder how blasé you’d be about this if it were James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Mo Salad with their respective teammates or a group of chavs having a rave in Liverpool or Leicester :)
I'd be really happy if they contracted it and missed games.

Ham Salad doesn't deserve oxygen anyway for his anti-Semitism.

Why not remove any risk whatsoever and just cancel the season then? Even if you took the meets out the risks would still remain to players because bubbles include immediate family who go to the shops and schools etc, so football will never be 100% safe.

So if we are really concerned about the players welfare and those outside the sport lets do the logical thing based on whats happening in the world and bring an end to the season?

If it's less than certain that a player spending all his time at home won't catch it from his family then it's significantly less so that players will catch it from each other in a few hours at a party.

I'm not twisting anything, I'm just trying to get people to apply logic instead of panic.

And what if his family doesn't have it but other people at the party do have it?

You're applying no logic at all. It's pretty simple, the more people you are in contact with the higher the risk of getting it.
Reduce contacts and reduce the risk. Nobody can remove the risk completely but stop doing stupid stuff that increases it.

FFS, out of all the people at the party there were only three Spurs players that train together etc. There were 15+ people they wouldn't normally interact with if they're following the rules and yet you are applying logic...

Aagh I am sick of celebrities and sports people having their fun and then apologising afterwards. It's like they do not believe rules apply to them. The sacrifices being made are not just for lives, they are for people's livelihoods and for our kids to be able to return safely to school. Fudging idiots.

My thoughts as well, society today has made these players into super stars who believe they can do what they want, fining them means nothing with the amount they earn. As for fudging idiots that is what they are.
