Son Heung-Min

I fudging loved it, just to see the faces of Vardy, Maddison and Rodgers. They already hate us, can you imagine how much more they do now??:D

Imagine if those goals had meant we had leapfrogged them into 4th though:mad::(
Highlight of the season for me. Shouldn't enjoy Schadenfreude quite so much but Leicester!!

Son, Kane and Bale. Will we EVER again have such an incredible front 3?
:(

If we ever do see another frontline of that calibre at Spurs, you can all but guarantee it will be hamstrung by either a midfield &/or defence which needs renovating!!

Can only imagine how good it would’ve been to see Kane and Son alongside this lot… throw in Vertonghen, Alderweireld plus Lloris and (if Sandro’s career hadn’t been ruined by injuries) that team surely would’ve won plenty of silverware during Pochettino’s reign.

And Moussa at his best.

You wouldn't be able to pick a team.

Bale
Son
Lennon
VDV
Kane
Modric
Moussa
Sandro
Eriksen
Rose
Walker
King
Verts
Toby

Imagine the depth and how strong the bench would be. Ridiculous that we didn't win anything with the VDV, Bale, Modric team and how we didn't win anything under Poch with alot of our players playing the best football of their careers.

Dele as well, brilliant for 2-3 seasons.

A player as direct as Son will more often than not be "streaky", depending on whether he's targeted by the defense or not. Remember the good times when Kane used to be targeted? If he went to the toilet, 3 players would follow him opening up acres of space.

And Son is smart and is looking for openings, not like say Lamela who would deliberately look for the largest clusters of players to dribble. A little exaggerated, but still. This will always be hot and cold. And he has absolutely become more rounded the last 2 seasons, Son of say 2018 would have probably have shot for the second assist against Villa.
It's not just that he is direct, he is, and as a result of that he's somewhat streaky.

He thrives, he's damn near world class in certain situations. Running in behind. Running at defenders with space to attack. Finishing with both feet. Assists with both feet, even with some variety. Very few players you'd back over him in those situations.

Put him in a situation where he's standing still without obvious space to attack. Or in a situation where he's facing the wrong way in tight areas under pressure. He's far from world class. A lot of players are better than him in those situations, including several players in our squad (even in addition to Kane mind).

He's direct because that's his way to play well. He's not a stop, take time, draw players in kind of player.

When we get him into situations where he thrives he will deliver. If our buildup play is poor or the opposition defend in a way that keeps him out of those situations he can be mostly useless. Still capable of showing up with great end product if he gets the chance, but it just won't happen that often.

So he's streaky. We make him less streaky but playing better as a team.

Slightly related to a post about injuries but it seems to me that Son wasn’t quite fit against Goons. I say this given the amount of extra and more effective sprints he performed against Villa and the fact their new RB looked decent in that game before getting torn apart against Brighton. As the first alternative for Kane we may find he runs out of steam towards the end of the season.

Yup, Pochettino would’ve had plenty of top quality furniture to compete for all the shiniest trophies if we’d been able to keep this squad together plus they’d avoided those career ruining injuries.

………………………………………………….……. Lloris ………..
Walker (Trippier) … Alderweireld (Woodgate) ... King (Vertonghen) ... Rose (BAE)
…………………………... Sandro (Wanyama) ……… Modric (Dembele) …
………………………… Bale (Lennon) … VdV (Dele) ... Son (Eriksen) …
…………………………………………..……. Kane (Defoe)

Both of those squads had a vital ingredient missing. In the case of Harry's we lacked a striker. We used to make absolutely oodles of chances, but we had no one competent at finishing them. The best we had was a motivated Ade but even he wasn't a good fit because in reality he was a SS and not a goal hungry striker. Imagine that side with Kane in it, it very likely would have won things because at that point it would have everything. Control, creativity and importantly finishing.

Poch's side lacked the opposite it lacked creativity, we had Eriksen but thats all we had. He needed support, he needed competition, at times he needed a rest, but we never had another player of his attributes to help push him and keep him on his toes or just bloody help him create in those tight and difficult matches.

Well we did have a decent understudy on the books at the start of Pochettino’s tenure…
