Really hope he struggles to find a club that will match his expectations or wage demands. Not cause i wish him ill. I just want paratici to be able to point to him as a warning for others. That's what happens when you think you are bigger than the club.

He's not going to end up at a bigger club than Spurs, if any were interested, there was a deal to be had.

He had some decent moments. But the guys positional sense and general lack of defensive football brain let him down on too many occasions. Don’t know if we had to pay him off at all. But that’s probably a few million saved in wages.

I suppose now that he's available on a free, there's a higher chance of him getting what he would want.

Ahead of Jose Mourinho’s first Champions League game as Spurs coach, the Portuguese turned to a stunned Serge Aurier and publicly fired a warning shot to the full-back/
"Serge, you are a marker. You speak good English?" Mourinho asked, to which Aurier nodded with confirmation.
"I am afraid of you as a marker. Because you are capable of doing a sh*t penalty with VAR. So I am telling you already, I am afraid of you."

It clearly was tactical. The difference between when we played a wonky at first under Mourinho and later on when Aurier was more defensive was clear as day.
Aurier looked like the least likely defender to make an error leading to a goal at many times last season.

Sissoko made plenty of errors. He made a classic Sissoko error for Watford vs. us when he completely failed to track Alli for the big chance he got. Saw that several times for us.

Aurier was more error prone, but improved and became less error prone. Sissoko hid from the ball to mask his technical deficiencies, Aurier actually tried to do useful things with the ball accepting some risk in the process.

That's not even getting to the errors costing us chances or shots at the other end.

I just find it curious, both players tried, both players worked hard on the pitch, both players improved after a really rather poor start. One is loved by many, the other, really not at all it seems.

Clearly we were living on different planets then.... and Mourinho's quote (some posts above) sort of tends to indicate which planet was real and which imaginary :)

Indeed, Aurier's problem was not what he did with the ball.... it's what he did without it! Especially concede penalties and dangerous freekicks or switch off marking opponents.

I am pretty sure that if you go through the Sissoko thread, "loved by many" is not exactly the impression you get

Didn’t Aurier give away a few penalties needlessly last season
And Aurier has as many fans as sissoko
Difference of course is one respected the club, the other just respected his own ego

I don't see the relevance of that quote with regards to what was being discussed. Did Sissoko cover for him so he didn't give away a penalty when marking?

Again, I think he improved with regards to those silly fouls and errors. I think it's clear as day, but fair enough if not.

He played, started even, two days after his brother was shot and killed.

Two fudging days after his brother was shot to death he started a game for us. I'm sure he was selected at a time like that in part because we were short on options. But he did the job, put in the effort for the club.

Yet he only respected his own ego? Yeah, not having that.

I agree. It's not ego, just a dangerous blend of confidence and stupidity. Aurier's certainly put the effort in, just without always being able to read the situation. Plenty of pace and talent, just not enough gumption to go with it. A reverse Milner, if you will.

Good luck to him. He's not the player we need, but hopefully Royal won't be a busted flush!

Sorry ego may be the wrong choice of words
What would you call someone that assault a policeman or their girlfriend ?
    Narcissist is probably better
And maybe playing footy took his mind of things. Sometimes work is relief
