Villa a couple million short on their offer while we're only interested in a loan?.... Doesn't sound as though there is much competition there for Villa to worry about.

A defensive CM too. Feels a bit desperate...need to get someone in to appease the fans...so Paratici goes back to Juve and asks about Kulu and this chap.

Perhaps its all part of a plan, but from the outside our transfer activity comes across as shambolic and chaotic.

On this chap, any views?

Competent midfielder, nothing special. Doesn't really raise the bar for us.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine are getting the best midfield player moving this window. Guimaraes would be a first choice starter for us and has the sort of progressive passing from deep midfield that Conte loves in his teams. When people say that "it's impossible to sign quality players in January' that signing completely disproves that. a quality, young player, in a position that we are in desperate need to improve our quality in, going for a transfer fee that we could (seemingly) afford (if we think our bid for Diaz was a genuine one) and we're nowhere to be seen. Strange?

Agreed, he's very good. He doesnt play in Italy though so off our radar

Guimaraes is definitely the type of central midfielder that would improve us, it seems we may be shackled by financial constraints

Depends. If we pay a loan fee of £5m and an option to buy for £20m. It would be better overall for juve.

They might even want to keep him long term but think a loan now might benefit him.

They turned it down anyway.

Of course they did.... They want to sell him (as I expect they will do to Villa once they up their bid by a couple of million).

Guimares seems like such an obvious target. I'm wondering whether this speaks to Conte's intended playing style, as in he doesn't want this type of player. Have we actually been linked with any creative midfielders at all this window? Either that or there's something bigger coming in the summer.

He is similar in style to Brozovic so tailor made for Conte’s system.
 
Guimares would be a good move. But then if he's not on the list...or a serie A player.

Plus you have to wonder the wages level for Saudi Sportswashing Machine to tempt any player to a relegation threatened club.

I’ve repeated this loads but everyone keeps on saying we need one… only guy who doesn’t think so it appears is the guy in charge

Guimaraes is one of the closest midfielders in style in Europe to Brozovic, so Conte clearly does play players like that. Hard working and good in the tackle but also progressive with his passing.

We can be forgiven for being very very cautious about signing anyone from Ligue1 for a decent sum of money
