Good piece on shenanigans at United over the window:

In a bid to put a bitter summer of transfer humiliation behind them, David Moyes will sit down with the under-fire Manchester United vice chairman, Ed Woodward, in the coming days to draw up a list of targets for January.

Before they do so they will look back, if not in anger then certainly with regret, at a summer of missed opportunities that culminated in 24 hours of screwball transfer deadline-day farce. Amid continued questions about where it all went wrong for the Premier League champions, down a succession of blind alleys and with a string of embarrassing rebuffs, it is understood they will dust themselves down and begin identifying the players they want to bring in during the next window.

Meanwhile, the Manchester United Supporters' Trust is seeking a meeting with Woodward to discuss a range of issues that are likely to include the level of the club's ambition to compete with the best in Europe.

Moyes, for all his public stoicism, is likely to be privately concerned about the club's failure to land a string of major targets and will be unwilling to see this summer's farce replayed as tragedy. The club's disastrous summer was summed up by their deadline-day humiliation.

Wonder why he didn't go for him then:

Jose Mourinho has admitted he pulled the plug on Demba Ba’s move to Arsenal because the signing of Mesut Ozil makes them title contenders.

The Blues boss, who coached the German during his three years at Real Madrid, hailed Ozil as the ‘best number 10 in the world’, and has no qualms revealing his £42.5million move to the Emirates convinced him to block Arsene Wenger’s bid for Ba.

‘Ozil is unique,’ Mourinho said.

‘There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes.

‘Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.

‘We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.’

Arsenal are said to be fuming with Chelsea after they sank the Ba deal, leaving them with just Olivier Giroud as their only recognised striker until January.

I would wager that JM was well aware of Ozil to Arsenal for some time. He probably would have gone for him himself if they hadn't spent their dough on Willian who they bought to stymie us just as Ba was IMO falsely offered to Arsenal and cancelled at the last minute too late for AW to get a replacement.
