another edition of 'Tim's Mother-fecking teamtalk'

Tim Sherwood Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach was not in a good mood. lack of sleep, irratating questions from journalists and more bad news from the medical team had all contributed to the anger and frustration that Tim felt pulsing in every fibre of his body and mind. Tim walked towards the home changing room trying to ignore the black and white pictures of spurs legends of years gone by...with each step the realisation of what this game meant came home to roost...dropped points against the baggies was one thing, not winning against a team just beaten 5-1 with two players sent off was quite another, Tim stopped, his handle on the door thinking, they would have been running round like loonies with only 9 men, they must be knackered...that was a good point unfortunatley his squad was not in the best shape either.....and not just physically, he had now witnessed first hand the difference of Home & Away matches, he hated to admit it but this team was frightened of White Hart Lane and he needed to correct that quickly, if he didnt he would struggle to establish himself as manager here, the pressure was on, Daniel was watching.....

The door opened and Tim strode into the dressing room with the air of a man trying to exhale confidence, evidently Les had finished going over the set piece's, the players looked fairly relaxed, Kyle Naughton was making rather a fuss folding his socks and adjusting his shin pads. Sandro who was still not fit to play was leaning against the wall his guitar held carelessly in his hands...by the looks of it he had broken off as Tim had entered the changing room.

There was five minutes until the players were needed in the tunnel it was time for words of wisdom....the final piece of the jigsaw that when completed would hopefully mean three points.

'Ok lads Stoke City today' Sort your shinnies out Kyle you will be needing them!' Kyle Naughton looked up and smirked, this did not make Tim feel any better, Kyle Walker would be a big miss today, his extra physical prescence aside his form had been quite excellent of late.

'we all know what we have to do.....we all know what our jobs are today and what we expect from each other.......dont ****ing care if you have to sell your soul to the devil today....or give away your Grandma for a pittance, you can even tell yourself that we are playing away today.....whatever happens whatever we do there is no way we are walking off that pitch at the end of 90 minutes without bloody winning .....This not doing ourselves justice in every home game crap has got to stop!! and its going to stop today!!!!

Tim knew he was letting his frustrations and anger spill out of him.....he couldnt keep control....

'You have to start believing in yourselves and each other from now....otherwise we may as well wave the white flag in the tunnel......Dont think this is easy because they just got done 5-1...they want to bounce back!!!!! They are a wounded animal that will fight hard to stay alive.....You need to match them for effort and let your quality shine through. You need to start passing the ball like the quality players you are because if you do that then Stoke cannot live with you!!!'

'Tired minds and aching bones is for long distance lorry drivers or single mothers looking after their kids with no help' 'that is not us we are not tired!'

'Lets do it today lads and get back on track!!! we are not knackered!!! we are hungry to win and put in a peformance which will finally represent the talent we have as a team.'

The Klaxon sounds leaving Tim breathing heavily 'come on' shouts Les Ferdinand clapping his hands together taking in the first 11... The noise of the team on the move fills the changing room and in a fashion the squad file out leaving Tim alone with his coaching staff.

Les Ferdinand places his hand on Tim's shoulder and asks 'you orite mate?' Tim takes another deep breath and looks up at les a look of grim determination on his face 'Ill be fine if we win fella....**** me what have we let ourselves in for? The two friends grin at each other and make their way towards the door...the sound of matchday growing louder with every step.

Please no more Sigurdsson :( He can't pass, take corners, play quickly, run very fast, tackle, see his team mates, or shoot very well from anywhere on the pitch. He's not a CM, he's not winger, we don't play with a number 10 right now, why is he in the team?

Tottenham Hotspur host Stoke City at White Hart Lane on Sunday 29th December 2013 (KO 16:00) in the 19th round of 2013-14 Premier League matches.

Spurs come into the match in 8th place in the Premier League on 31 points with Stoke in 10th place on 21 points. This will be the 86th time the two teams have met.

The first ever meeting came at the Victoria Ground when Stoke City were playing as Stoke FC in the old first round of the FA Cup in February 1896 in a match Stoke won 5-0.

Stoke had become one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888 and the clubs were drawn together in the third round of the FA Cup in February 1899 at the Victoria Ground with Stoke winning 4-1.

The first match at White Hart Lane between the clubs was a friendly played in March 1900 with Spurs, then Champions of the Southern League, beating Stoke 6-0.

Spurs joined the Football League for the 1908-09 season, replacing Stoke who had resigned at the end of the previous season for financial reasons. The clubs didn't meet in a League match until April 1920 in the Second Division with Tottenham winning 2-0 at the Lane and 3-1 at the Victoria Ground.

The first meeting in Division One came in March 1923 at Stoke which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Spurs won the reverse fixture at the Lane a week later 3-1.

The clubs met for five seasons in the Second Division between 1928 to 1933 and for two seasons in Division One from 1934 to 1935.

After the Second World War, the clubs met in the modern FA Cup third round in January 1947 at White Hart Lane which resulted in a 2-2 draw with Stoke winning the replay 1-0 thanks to a Stanley Matthews goal.

Three years later, Spurs beat Stoke 1-0 away in the third round.

Spurs were Football League Champions in 1950-51 and beat Stoke 6-1 at home but could only draw 0-0 away during that season.

Every League game played between Spurs and Stoke since WW2 has taken place in the Top Flight, except for season 1977-78 when Spurs spent a single season in Division Two, beating Stoke 3-1 in both matches.

The clubs met in the FA Cup in January 1976 with a 1-1 draw at the Lane followed by a 2-1 win for Stoke in the replay.

Tottenham Hotspur were founder members of the Premier League in 1992-93 but Stoke City's first season in the competition only came in 2008-09 with Stoke winning 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium and Spurs winning 3-1 at the Lane.

During 2009-10, Stoke won 1-0 at White Hart Lane with Spurs winning 2-1 at the Britannia.

In 2010-11, Spurs did the "double" over Stoke, winning the away fixture 2-1 with a brace of goals from Gareth Bale and the home fixture 3-2 in April with a double from Peter Crouch and a Luka Modric goal.

The teams met for the first time in the Football League (Carling) Cup 3rd round in September 2011 at Stoke and the match finished in a goalless draw after extra time. Stoke went on to win the penalty shoot-out 7-6. Spurs youngster Massimo Luongo penalty was saved by Thomas Sorensen.

The 2011-12 Premier League game at the Britannia Stadium in December was won 2-1 by Stoke with a Matthew Etherington brace putting the Potters 2-0 up at half-time. Tottenham's Emmanuel Adebayor pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after 62 minutes but defender Younes Kaboul was sent-off after collecting two yellow cards. The match at White Hart Lane in March 2012 resulted in a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half, Cameron Jerome put the visitors ahead after 75 minutes but a Rafael van der Vaart header in the dying moments of the game ensured that honours were even.

The match at White Hart Lane in December 2012 finished in a goalless draw. The match had few clear-cut chances for either team.

A Steven Nzonzi header after just 3 minutes put Stoke ahead in the match at Britannia Stadium in May 2013 but Clint Dempsey equalised after 20 minutes. The winning goal came from Emmanuel Adebayor seven minutes from time.

Overall, Spurs have won 42 games, Stoke have won 23 games and the remaining 20 matches of the 85 played have been drawn.

theres got to be a chance that Ryan Fredericks will be picked ahead of Naughton - Fredericks was picked ahead of him on the bench last Sunday.

Soldado must be pretty close to 5 yellow cards having been booked yesterday again? Anyone know where Defoe was yesterday? Kane still injured?

Assuming none of the injured players back I'd go: Lloris, Fredericks, Dawson, Chiriches, Rose; Lamela, Capoue, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Adebayor, Soldado. Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Bentaleb, Paulinho, Holtby, Chadli, Defoe

Soldado has only 3 yellow cards now.
I suppose Defoe is going to be sold to MLS in a week so we're not risking his health.

They have suspensions and it is only Stoke. Should be at least a 3-0 win.

And we are Tottenham. Nothing is ever that straightforward.

Can see us scraping home 2-1, but as sure as eggs is eggs, Crouch scores for them. Huth own goal and Adeabyor for us
