Man of the match

Most established players played exactly as you would expect, with the same pros and cons that we are already aware of.

I was a bit surprised how centrally Clarke played, he was not on the wing. He frequently moved inside and let Gedson take the wide role.

None of the kids particularly amazed me. Cirkin looked neat and confident at left back, quite skilful for a full back.

Not much you can take from the first friendly against an league 1 side who are rotating their squad but...

Same formation with 3 at the back and Gedson effectively playing right wing.

PEH looked PL and CL level.

Our pitch is still a little slippery.

Of the younger players, Sessengon, Cerikin, and Gedson look closest to the first team and should make cup appearances at the least.

Finally: without Son and Kane we are short up front. And signing a striker is, or should be, our first priority.

It’s been our priority for years

I think Clarke playing more inside was just the system. Indeed was interested to see Jose continue this system (3 at the back in possession, with RB pushed right up) - I quite like it personally. Thought Gedson at RB was intriguing too.

I know he scored, but still can’t feel positive about Sessegnon... just doesn’t seem to have real pace or skill for a wide player.

Wish Foyth could stamp out the mistakes - that pass for Son was a thing of beauty from a CB.

My view, obviously keeping opponent level in mind

- We showed we can still play possession, and we can press

- We passed hard, a lot harder/crisper passing than I've seen in a while

- Ipswich really didn't have a sniff for 90 mins

- At the end, the only senior players on pitch were Toby and Gazza, and we still played much the same.

Now to impressions

- Toby's big passing was back

- Son was good, should have had a hattrick

- PEH played higher than expected (was in front of Winks most times), what was interesting was the amount of talking/instructions he gave plus how advanced he played at times (could have had goal as well)

- Decent game from Gedson (still a work in progress, but promise)

- Impressed from the younger players by Cirkin and Clarke, could definitely see them getting game time.

- The only downside was outside of Son and Kane, we really need another striker option

Decent day at office ..

Difficult to judge with very poor opposition and preseason in strange circumstances. We did about as well as can be expected I thought though.
I like Gedson Fernandes I think there is a top player there.
I agree. We have quite a few of those "there's a real/top player there" types I think. We need some of them to really step up.
Gedson was OK. Think he needs to stop going inside so much.

Son looked sharp so he is my motm @milo
Isn't central midfield his most natural position? No surprise he came inside quite a bit.

Thought he did rather well, but needs to show that against better opposition.
