OMT *** Tottenham Hotspur v Newport County A.F.C *** FA Cup 4th round

They must have been annoyed that Aurier didn't play.
Until Trippier tried that odd back-header clearance attempt for their goal.

This was a really disappointing performance and result ! Eventhough we came from a goal down to draw and force a replay at Wembley, this feels like a defeat ! We almost lost to a League 2 team in the FA Cup for the first time in 103 years ! This was another unconvincing Cup performance under Pochettino. Never thought we would struggle against an unknown team from League 2 like Newport ! But then, looking at our team lineup, we should have expected this. Our starting lineup badly lacked a creative player. It was really embarassing that we only had 2 shots on target against a League 2 team.We better improve our performance in the replay if we want to progress to the next round.

Credit to Kane for scoring our only goal to keep us in the FA Cup ! Apart from that goal, we didn't look like scoring in the match. Son assisted the goal for Kane but he also wasted a one-on-one chance before that. Alli came on to set up that chance for Son which he should have scored. I think if Son had scored that we would have gone on to win. Instead we ran out of time after Kane scored our only goal 8 minutes from time.

Pochettino has to take large part of the blame for not starting any of our creative players in midfield like Eriksen or Alli. Alli had an instant impact after coming on when his inch perfect pass set up Son who wasted the chance. Sissoko started the match well in the first half but was poor in the second half. For all his work rate, his finishing were poor. For some reason, Wanyama and Dembele failed to control the midfield as needed.

Our defence had an unconvincing match. Vertonghen, Foyth and Dier made too many mistakes in defence. Dier has to take part of the blame for their goal as his weak header went straight to a Newport player from which they scored. Felt Vorm should have done better for their goal as well. Apart from their goal, they also had other chances to score.

It is clear we got complacent against Newport. We need to play much better against them in the replay at Wembley. But the problem is we will now have to play 3 matches in 5 days as the replay will come in between our league matches against Liverpool and Arsenal. Let's hope we will have all our players available by then to help us progress to the Round 5 of the FA Cup.

That's quite eye-opening, in terms of seeing what a neutral observer made of that Southampton game and what insights were made into the players.
Sissoko was not focussed on but Lamela copped flak.

Not surprised. I agree very strongly with the descriptions of Sanchez and Alli. What was eye opening for me was the Sanchez/Aurier angle. Never thought of that. It would shed more light on why Toby is valuable to the club. It can also be explained by both players being new to Spurs this season.
