*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sept***

superfaisty

Nico Claesen
Well since no-one else has put one up, I thought I would start the ball rolling.

Oh OMT Gods, please smile upon thy lowly servant, a virgin OMT'er amongst the many dirty massed badgers and other furry animals that worship at your altar.

Unashamedly I have taken the holy dagger of Tottingham to cut and with the Saliva of Mabbsy pasted the following history of Spurs vs Villa:

Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Tuesday 24th September 2013 (KO 19:45) in the third round of 2013-14 Football League (Capital One) Cup.

This is the first domestic cup tie contested between Villa and Spurs in 19 years.

The match at will be the 165th time the two teams have met. Tottenham Hotspur first played Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa. Three more friendlies were played until the clubs met in anger for the first time in the old Third Round of the FA Cup (today's 5th Round) in March 1903 with Villa winning 3-2.

There have been two Wembley matches played between the two clubs. The first was in the 1971 Football League Cup Final which Spurs won 2-0 with two goals from Martin Chivers - Aston Villa were in the Third Division at the time.

The second game at Wembley came in the 1981 Charity Shield with FA Cup Winners Spurs drawing 2-2 with Football League Champions Aston Villa. Mark Falco scored both Spurs goals and Peter Withe did likewise for Villa.

The last time the two clubs met in a domestic cup tie was in the 5th Round of the League Cup in January 1994 with Villa winning 2-1.

Both Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were founder-members of the Premier League in 1992-93 and the two clubs, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the only seven ever-present clubs during the competition's 21 season history.

Spurs did the 'double' over Villa in 2010-11 winning both matches 2-1 with Rafael van der Vaart scoring all of Tottenham's four goals. Villa's two goals both came from Marc Albrighton at White Hart Lane in October and Villa Park in December, after Spurs had been reduced to ten men after Jermain Defoe's red card after 27 minutes.

Spurs signed former Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel during the summer of 2011 on a free transfer. Alan Hutton made a move in the opposite direction and Jermaine Jenas joined Villa on a season's loan.

The 2011-12 at White Hart Lane last season took place on Monday 21st November and resulted in a 2-0 win for Tottenham. Two first half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor after 14 and 40 minutes were enough to see Spurs take all three points in a game marked by Harry Redknapp's return after undergoing minor heart surgery. In January 2012 former Spurs striker Robbie Keane had a loan spell with Aston Villa scoring 3 times in 7 appearances. The match at Villa Park in April 2012 finished 1-1 with Ciaran Clark putting Villa ahead with a 25-yard shot that deflected off William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor scoring a 62nd minute penalty to level the proceedings.

This fixture at White Hart Lane in October 2012 resulted in a 2-0 win for Spurs. After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker put Spurs ahead after 58 minutes when he deflected-in Jermain Defoe's close range shot and Aaron Lennon added a second in the 67th minute with
a powerful shot into the far corner of the net.

Villa were in a very generous mood when they hosted Spurs on Boxing Day 2012 with Spurs coming away with all three points after a 4-0 win. Jermain Defoe opened the scoring and Gareth Bale added a hat-trick.

Tuesday's game at Villa Park will be the 165th match played between the two clubs and Spurs have the edge with 66 wins to Villa's 59 with 39 matches having been drawn.

We've conceded 1 in 11, and you expect Villa to hit 2 past us?

Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Tuesday 24th September 2013 (KO 19:45) in the third round of 2013-14 Football League (Capital One) Cup.

Villa beat Rotherham United 3-0 at home in the second round with goals from Andreas Weimann, Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, while Spurs had a bye due to European commitments. This is the first domestic cup tie contested between Villa and Spurs in 19 years.

The match at will be the 165th time the two teams have met. Tottenham Hotspur first played Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The first Football League meeting came on 20th November 1909 in the First Division after Spurs had been promoted after their first season of League football. Villa once again won 3-2.

There have been two Wembley matches played between the two clubs. The first was in the 1971 Football League Cup Final which Spurs won 2-0 with two goals from Martin Chivers - Aston Villa were in the Third Division at the time.

We're doomed. Injuries for every player and the bus will break down on the way home.

THFC as unashamed as I am, I bow down and recognise that it is your work that I unashamedly cut and paste - the wonders of the interweb!

Gutter Boy - with Brad in Goal and Chiriches playing his first game I expect the OMT gods to give the Villans some hope before it is extinguished by our boys.

So a mixture of resting a couple that have played a lot recently (Verts, Dawson, Dembele) with using a few who need fitness and sharpness (Kaboul, Sandro, Chirches, Lamela, Paulinho, Soldado).

This. Apart from Fryers at LB and Naughton at RB. We need to see if Fryers has what it takes and Naughton should be given the chance to redeem himself in his correct position.

These guys are more likely in need of a rest than anything surely? Unfortunately we don't really have many options at CM atm.

Anyway.. **** fred

------------Friedel--------------
Naughton-Kaboul-Chiriches-Fryers
--------Sandro--Paulinho--------
-Lamela----Holtby------Townsend
---------Defoe/Kane-------------

Would like to give Soldado and Eriksen a bit more time in the team before Chelsea but also want them to be fit. Naughton was extremely mixed yesterday so would like to see Fryers given a go at LB (although he has been terrible every time I've seen him so far....). Also think Lamela needs a start against PL opposition and Townsend should be given a try on the left. If Defoe is unfit Kane should be given a shot and if he underperforms we always have Soldado on the bench.

Should hopefully be enough to see of a Benteke-less Villa.

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

AVB suggested post-match that he would be making a lot of changes. I'd expect an almost entirely different side.

----------------------Friedel---------------------

Kaboul--------Daws---------Chiriches-------Fryers

---------------------Sandro---------------------

---------------Holtby------Siggy-----------------

Lamela----------------------------------Townsend

----------------------Kane-----------------------

Subs: Gomes, Veljkovic,Walker, Dembele, Paulinho, Defoe, Bentaleb

If AVB's supposition that 48 hours after a game is the worst time to be playing again is correct, then the guys most at risk of injury from starting are Daws, Siggy and Townsend. However, it can't be helped. Hopefully that line-up proves enough to overcome Villa.

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

Friedel

Naughton
Kaboul
Chiriches
Fryers

Sandro
Holtby

Lamela
Sigurdsson
Kane

Defoe(if fit)

Re: *** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa, Capital One Cup 3rd Round, Tues 24th Sep

The scheduling of this match is making it hard for any teams to field any sort reasonably strong line ups. Crazy.

We should field nobody that expects to play against Chelsea. There must be a few kids that can be brought into the match day squad for this.

Kane isn't really a CF is he.

He looks best more as a #10/SS or cutting in from LF. His lack on any real physical qualities impairs him as a line leader.
