I agree - I thought we were very good last night. We absolutely battered them. We probably tried too many crosses but they completely crowded us out when we got into central positions around their box and even when we did squeeze a ball through, they still had bodies in there to get in the way because they were sat so deep. My only concern was how ropey we looked at the back on the rare occasions they broke or got a set piece. It's been happening all season and I'm not sure why but we look so fudging brittle any time we are attacked. I know we had no defensive screen in midfield last night but even when Dier or Big Vic have played, we've looked dreadful at the back. And the lack of defensive midfielder doesn't account for our incompetence at set pieces. I've no idea what's going on because it's unlike us to be this bad defensively based on the last few years.

Liked Gazza too. Wanted to smack him for the Cruyff turn but he had little in the way of options watching it back. I think that's why he was bawling people out of it just after. He's been a real find. I had him down as another Ben Alnwick but he's really contributing this season.

There have been encouraging signs in recent weeks that we're coming back a bit. Let's hope we can keep it going on Saturday evening against Palace.
I've got a nagging feeling Alderweireld is coasting through games, when we need him to put his body on the line and lead the defence. Unfortunately, we don't have other options at the moment.

I'm finding it really hard to judge Toby. To me he looks slower and isn't as outstanding as he was in previous years. But I'm wondering if my opinion of his performances is being negatively tainted by his carry-on last season.

In the two games against PSV I found their approach kind of distasteful. There is something quite negative and antagonistic about how they go about games.

It was only last night I realised Van Bommel was the manager, that probably explains it!

Its a real shame for me, Ive been a fan of Dutch football/teams for as long as I can remember and these guys just give me bad vibes.

Hendrix - what a clam. Quite punchable sort of character. Was clear there to be a leg breaker and stop anyone from trying to play football.
de Jong - another who is just really dislikeable. Was throwing himself around and bad tempered all game

Most of their other players were just 'meh'.

Schwaab - was outstanding on the night. Im not sure he is an especially good player, but he was quite brilliant.
Zoet - was good, couple of decent saves. When the second went in I thought he was crying - didnt see that he had nutted the post :D
Lozano - was much more like the player I expected to see. I was bitterly disappointed with him last time, thought he was good last night.
Angelino - I thought he was really good, apparently they got him from City. Wont be surprised to see him return to a top league again soon.

I thought he was poor last night. His attitude wasnt right at all, he was bitching and moaning at players - mostly for no good reason - like they had done something wrong the whole time.

I thought he was quite lazy on the ball, and carried a very frustrated demeanor from the off.

Late on he was running around as a RW and I was just thinking "What the fudge are you doing?!" He was all over the place and it didnt look like he had his head screwed on at all.

A very poor game from him, all in all, IMO.

I dont think he has been especially good recently at all, either.

If you are waiting for a big pay day (free transfer), you wouldn't be human if it didn't affect you trying to stay uninjured.

You so also need to play well enough to warrant a big payday.

Id suggest right now his stock has fallen somewhat.

Of course, always time for it to improve, but my feeling is in January the offers wont be like they were in the Summer...

I agree. If I'm a top club looking at him based on this season, I'd pass. Maybe they'll put it down to self preservation but that calls into question his attitude. It's also just as likely that he was out of action for 6-9 months, is at the age where decline could be setting in and didn't exactly have a glittering career before Spurs anyway. Not the type of player you'd go spunking £50m-£70m on because he's a risk with no resale value.

Or £25m ad £200k a week.

To some clubs thats a reasonable deal for a squad player, but only very few. Otherwise thats a major investment worthy of due consideration.

Alderweireld, fit and on form, is a fabulous defender. If he finds that over the next few months he could well attract that deal, but he has some work to do to get there IMO.

12. Quality of squad haircuts

Wow, really? Cannot say I particularly noticed that. I do remember a peach of a long ball from him that put Dele clear through on goal second half, also a critical interception late on when one of their attackers seemed certain to score.

It was an odd game, given the tempo we started with, the early goal, and PSVs 11 behind the ball tactic, maybe difficult for defenders as its not "normal", but all the more reason for an experienced player like him to step up and keep things solid.

He looked scrappy and all over the place for most of the game to me, and as I said, definitely had an attitude.

Thats not to say he didnt do anything well, of course, just that on balance I was less than impressed...

Unless as is often the case he already has a deal in place elsewhere....

I adore this team, so many good times in pubs watching them. Yesterday was another one! I like the fact we have kept the Champions League alive for at least another game, think it gives impetus and focus to the squad. Also they will get more experience of big pressurized games and we will hopefully get to have another mini-epic experience.

Maybe its confirmation bias or whatever but i think he takes the easy option everytime now - good example being the corner he conceded that they scored from, would have expected a defender to attempt a clearance upfield in those circumstances and think that's what we would have seen from him prior to the contract issues

Toby looked sluggish last night.
Made our defending looked nervy.
Toby looked wrong for their goal. Dele was blocked off but the ball went over Toby's head who should have cleared it.

I was in that section, just on the other side of the goal. When they scored, we picked out a few and got them turfed! Waved goodby.

The atmosphere was so shyte (and enough spare seats) we manged to move all the way round to the other end behind the goal. Better atmosphere, everyone standing, but still not singing. People trying to get chants going, but it wasn't happening, until we scored.
Were you near the three who celebrated their goal, and then had a row with a Spurs fan three rows in front before the stewards escorted them back into the away fans then? I was on the row behind them behind the goal with my sons. Difficult to hear any Spurs over the noise of PSV... although I joined in with the Yid Army chants... there were two lads trying to lead those choruses consistently throughout the game so I guess one of them was you... row 17?

I can't believe all the positive posts on here about last night, after 10 mins of the match I'd read enough to run a hot bath and find my razor blades. I know eveyones opinion should bear as much weight as all but we do have a lot of headless chicken fans on here. Unfortunately I have flu and went to bed at half time but I never thought we would lose that game. Might watch it when I get up.

Had same conversation last night...

Liverpool - Possible they would offer him a place alongside VVD, but wouldnt be a given over gomez
Arsenal - May not be in champs league, plus not sure he would after the judas stuff
Utd - May not be in the champs league, seems he wasnt on top of clubs list due to age / injury
City - Wouldnt get in their first team
Chelsea - Possible
PSV - Possible
Juventus - Possible
Bayern - Possible
Dortmund - Be surprised if he fit their "profile"
Napoli - No better option than spurs
Athletic Madrid - Been there done that

Think actually the club / poch have played it right with him, if he was on the open market, im not sure we would pay what he wants or the transfer fee, wouldn't be shocked to see him sign a new contract
