***OMT - Spurs vs Liverpool***

2017 - all comps

Liv H : W0 - D2 - L3 - F4 - A7

TH. A : W1 - D2 - L0 - F6 - A3

We need to up our away win rate, and this should be the time.

Had City not got that late winner, we could have afforded to lose here and still be sat in 2nd (barring a big swing in GD), which would have been brilliant.

As has been said a defeat would not be the end of the world in the race for a Top 4 place, but would be a blow to finishing 2nd. In the words of Kevin Keegan I would love us to see us turn these over, what a boost to the run-in that would be, but we all know this is one of 'their' Cup finals.
I would go as far to say, after Everton and United this is the match their fans would most like to win

Liverpool are a club in dramatic decline. Much as we were under Sugar. Each year the brand of that once great club is a little more tarnished. Arsenal, Chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project have all overtaken them. And we are chasing them down.

Games like this are increasingly important to them as they desperately try and regain their status as an elite club. They have to win. If they don't, they slip to their normal upper-mid table position and the lie of "the greatest club side in World" is harder to maintain. Klopp will try and paper over the cracks. He will be charming but he is losing control. He is pulling the levers but nothing is happening. Their cult-like fans and media sycophants are frantically attacking anyone who questions the team, manager or club and they justify their aggressive and unreasonable behaviour because they are the "most knowledgeable fans in football". But the truth is they are bullying their own fans by throwing their 'bedwetting' accusations at anyone who questions the Emperor's new clothes.

More and more people are seeing them for what they are: a decent-ish mid table side - a bit better than Everton, Leicester, Southampton, West Ham - with a (mostly) pretty little history who are desperately trying to convince us all they are something they once were.

The result will not change any of this. Maybe we win, maybe we won't but we are going in the right direction. They are in freefall.

As for the game, Klopp may be able to raise the tempo of his "easy listening" football, and given the recent history between the clubs, Liverpool may be able to get a 1-1 draw.

Although a win at Anfield would be nice, if only for the gnashing of teeth on RAWK and the first #Kloppout sightings of the spring. They seem to be turning on their manager a little earlier this year.

They are still paying £60M a year more in wages and have about £100M better revenue, I know its not as simple but position tends link between the two. Enjoy it while we can is what I say.

Dont laugh, but I honestly think we have more chance of losing at Burnley than Anfield. Although its a close call

And with our recent record, Leicester away (although it should be) wont be easy either

Ranked in descending order after that
West Ham
Swansea
Palace
and finally Hull (as I think they could be down by the last match)
Wouldn't disagree

Burnley away will be very hard but we have a jinx over us at tossfield

It will be the same 11 from the Boro game.
We can't really change anything.
We can't go 3 at the back as Davies really can't play wing back.
Son will be wide on the left again as Davies doesn't give us width.

The only other real option is to bring winks in to a 433 with Alli and Eriksen behind Kane like in the 343 but it would be so narrow.

Davies vs Mane in a 3 won't work. It would be great to have Lamela available for this one to disrupt their left side. Son will have to track back better than he did at Scumford Bridge.

If anything, I'd wonder if he might drop Sonny for another CM, like Winks to make sure we win the midfield battle and that Dembele doesn't get over-pressed and turn the ball over.

That said, Son has been so dangerous and busy in the last few games. I'd bet we play the same XI v Boro. If not, maybe something like this?

---------------Lloris
Walker--TBA---Dier---Davies
------Winks---Wanyama---
-----------Dembele--------
Eriksen---Kane----Alli

Our boys must prevail, our coccks must continue to go raging on...we cannot afford to lose this crucial game.

Dunno why some are suggesting we play counter? Ok I do and understand the logic....yet, I believe that Dembele and Wanyama will win the midfield battle (mind you thought this with city away) and give us the platform to start pumping them and asking questions of that questionable defence and keeper....

If we can find a performance like Chelsea, wba home then we can take all the points.

We must be proud and brave and unwilling to accept failure.

We can do this! To dare is to do

Yeah, I'm not saying that we should play like Swansea did or something and just play on the counter. But, their press is just so dangerous when you are playing out from the back, and I think having another classy CM like Winks could help us quickly progress from defense into attack, while limiting them creating those cheap chances.

Asking Dembele and Wanyama to a win a battle against Wijnaldum, Can, and Henderson (who I'd guess will all be in CM) is a huge task for anybody, no matter how good they are. Also, if you can break through their second line of pressing, they are so vulnerable (a little like Poch's first season with Mason and Bentaleb in midfield) and super open, and I think Winks can help break that press by passing around it/ through it.

On the other hand, I guess you can also go over the top of the press, which would make Son very useful. I dunno.

This is gonna be a really interesting game, and I can't wait to see how he approaches it.

I wouldn't mind us sacrificing our usual approach to sit back and snuff out Liverpools attack. That's where they've struggled most when teams have sat back and played 6 across the back almost. Mourinho showed the blueprint in their initial 0-0 draw at Anfield and many sides have since copied it.

Realistically there is very little chance of that as Pochettino would never tailor our game that radically to our opponent. Tough game, right now would take the draw

I'd be a lot more confident about this one if Rose was playing. Any updates on his status?

Fingers crossed the visit to the specialist today went well!

And what of Jan? He was running last week after all!

Lloris
Rose
Vertonghen
Alderweireld
Dier
Walker
Wanyama
Dembele
Eriksen
Dele
Kane

Liverpool - 0
Spurs - 3

:)

We should play 3-5-2 or whatever he formation is that we played vs Chelsea

It takes their attack on mama for man but overloads the midfield

They might be, difference is if you look at our financials vs theirs over the last 7-10 years, there is no question they are not well run comparatively. If it wasn't for the fact the last buy out wiped out a significant portion of their debt, they would have imploded by now.

Pool is a worse version of Manure, yes, they still make good money, but that won't survive another 5 years of no CL, no major challenge or trophies. and you can smell the desperation.

I expect a tough game, if they have nay pride, they will be up for it. I hope Poch is willing to alter our game and use the formula everyone else has for killing them, sit deep (negates their long ball play), give them possession in front of you (negates their press) and hit on counter (exposes how brick their back line truly is), pressure the keeper (calamity waiting to happen).

It's typical that we faced Emirates Marketing Project after they got whomped by Everton and that we now face the Dippers after Hull did them over. I hope Klopp isn't as successful as Pep at re-setting his team and we can give them aright pasting. I'm still upset about that 7-0.

I suppose the worry, and it's hard to admit but they out pressed us at whl. That and city away is the only time I feel the opposition has really had their way with us this season.

We will miss verts and rose no doubt...still they are devoid of confidence and me must play in a way that keeps their nerves jangling.

I feel a win will kill them, I would have it that final nail is hammered into the lfc coffin. With things as tight as a gnats butt crack for champs leagues places, we really need to take the initiative, one less team to worry about.
