Fair play on those quotes, i looked no further than the post i quoted so good to see some blame taking from him

I know you're down on Jose right now and have doubts which is fair enough so fair play for that post. There is still a hint in the quotes I put out there that Jose is saying "blame me for what was on the pitch but blame the players for what happened once they were there". He does seem to strongly believe in personal responsibility though. With Dele, he says "I can't motivate him, I can only give him chances". Throughout the documentary, you could see how he didn't believe that things in games should affect players. It was very much "it's happened, deal with it". He didn't believe confidence was something that was a result of performances, he thought players could control their confidence levels. His mentality is really interesting.

That said, I was delighted on Monday with the scrappy win. However, as someone else pointed out (may have been you), against Burnley and Antwerp away, we didn't fashion one chance from play. That's despite having Kane, Son, Bale, Moura, Bergwijn, Lamela, Vinicius and Dele on the pitch at various stages. That's a little bit of a worry.

Jose is playing games yet again with specific high profile assets. If it’s as simple as a device to rule, then it’s sad!
Yes can’t help but agree. I like Jose but he does have this tendency to pick out one player and make an example of them. Shame it’s Dele.

He is going through a tough time, stone me he was not even that bad last season, his scoring rate was the same as his glory days. He has played what? two 45 mins, maybe I have missed another? I bet Bale gets more chances despite not being sharp and frankly poor today as a 350k loan from another club, we cant even agree to cultivate a 24 player who is obviously supremely talented.
He's not talented as you think he is. He's good in a very specific context, that context has now changed and his attributes don't especially make exceptionally suited to the current shape.

He would need to remodel his game and instincts and truly he isn't that kind of player.

I’ve never even been close to playing professional football but that seems massively harsh on Sanchez. The goal is on Davies, Sanchez has very little choice but to go to the man with the ball or he just has a free run on goal. 99% of defenders will do that and unless you are VDV facing someone with the shooting ability of Sissoko you lose the 2on 1 duel 99% of the tIme especially when you have your back to goal.

It is a high standard but that's the level he's playing at. The goal is on Davies, I absolutely agree on that. And Sanchez has to go to the man on the ball. I agree on that. But he has to force him outside and make the pass in as hard as possible. The danger is the guy in behind Sanchez. If he gets the ball he scores. The lad with the ball isn't the biggest danger because he has to do something brilliant to score if Sanchez forces him down that side. I don't think Sanchez is even thinking about the lad in behind, he's just 100% focused on forcing the lad with the ball down the outside.

I thought Hoddle and Hargreaves made a great point on it. Dier had a similar situation a few weeks ago in a different area of the pitch (think against Saudi Sportswashing Machine) and defended it brilliantly. Sanchez just doesn't have the awareness on stuff like that for me.

On the contrary I think he is very talented. He has a good football brain, capable of threading neat passes into tight situations, makes clever runs and works hard. He also has an edge. He played in Spurs team that was pushed to its limits by Poch, maybe it pushed him to hard. But there is no doubt for me his talent is there.

No one comes to the premier league before 24 and gets

158 games
50 goals
33 Assists

And is not super talented. I know a handful of players in the world that have managed to adapt their game to move to another role (And its not Ben Davies) so TBH you saying that all he has done means nothing because he cant turn himself into Son is slightly harsh in my opinion.

The lad with the ball isn't the biggest danger because he has to do something brilliant to score if Sanchez forces him down that side. I don't think Sanchez is even thinking about the lad in behind, he's just 400% focused on forcing the lad with the ball down the outside.

Which was the Dier situation?

He has talent but he's not particularly versatile or suited to playing in more than one way. His key atribute are his late runs and eye for a goal. His passing is meh, he has decent vision but his execution is meh. He has no playmaking or tempo setting attributes.

He's a good player but not an exceptional one. The difference between himself and Ndombele is quite stark. That is a player with exceptional talent.

Jose got it wrong tonight. It was a game he used like you would an old reserve league game, unfit returning players mixed with some you would not consider nailed on first teamers and players Jose clearly views second string. It back fired

I'm not as down on him as i appear to be and truth be told i am playing up to perception a little bit tbf, but i do have nagging worries from early on that i haven't quite shaken yet despite the good work of late - i think we have as good a chance as anyone to win the league this seadon and the Europa League is there to be won too, they're the targets and the bar is set high - up to him to match it.

That was poor, poor, poor. No one came out of it with any credit. Our mentality was wrong from the start. None of the second string seemed up for this game which seems strange to me. If you want to impress the boss in any field, you really need to give your all once given the chance.

Why we persist in trying to go straight through the middle where there is total congestion is a mystery to me. Same happened against Burnley. We can't seem to get our full backs or wingers to get round the back of defences to open them up . I can't understand this as that is where the space is against teams which play so many defenders in the central positions. Seems so obvious to me. Bergy, Lucas, Son, Bale, Lamela, Regi and Aurier need to attack the flanks, get to the byline and pull balls back. Otherwise it is just rinse and repeat.

Sorry @glasgowspur but that’s gonad*s! One minute we are beating ManU 1-6! Jose needs to stop playing silly buggers with ‘curtain players’ and stop trying to play the amateur psychologist!
Get them fit and above all play them! Stop playing mind games!

We need to put that Man U result in context. There was a sending off first-half.

Meh was Burnley Mark II without nicking a goal. Think the mass changes at half time didn’t quite work. Personally I think keeping Carlos on as the number 9 and playing Kane off of him might have been better. Would have occupied the Centre backs and given Kane more space to work in.

It was a strange one.
I wonder if even he believed he has two first teams? I must admit I thought we had enough starting tonight to win the match, but the meteorology cost us. I was hoping at one down that Dele would step up and lead, especially as sort of a "senior" (sounds weird doesn't it?) but alas he shrunk after their goal. So sad to see.
He seemed muted in that first half. There were a couple of moments where the dele of old would have done something imaginative, and he went for the easy pass. I know the team around him was totally different but it looked like He was trying not to make mistakes rather than trying to create.

I think that's a top observation. He did seem like he was playing with fear.

Which was the Dier situation?

For the life of me, I can't remember the game but it was actually very, very similar to the VVD v Sissoko one. I'm almost certain it was Saudi Sportswashing Machine and he forced the lad into the pass and intercepted it despite being 1 v 2. It was a magnificent piece of defending but barely got a mention on TV whereas VVD practically had an open top bus parade for the Sissoko situation.

With Bergwijn it really does seem to be mental. Looks like he is playing well within himself...

This is the same game we always struggle in. Second string away from home with nothing really to play for against a team who treat it as a cup final.
It will be the exact same away to Ludogorets.
What matters from this game is coming away from a trip to the current Covid capital of Europe without anyone getting it.

Yes but tonight we were unrecognisable and dreadful.
Mourinho was totally ineffectual had no answers tonight.
That’s down to him but he will blame the players but sadly I think that’s what Jose does.
