Definitely Derp Arsenal supporters are claiming that we were lucky. They are talking about Aubameyang hitting the woodwork. When they post screenshots of possession, I’m tempted to screen shot Lucas’s tackle statistic in reply.

It’s because it was again Mou
It’s the old possession rule too
They had all the ball so dominated
Strangely though when we have all the ball and don’t win it’s not the same

Better off screenshotting the XG, which suggests we created much better chances.

Yep the possession stats were reversed in the same fixture last season, yet apparently they deserved to win that one too!

Yesterday we had more than double the amount of shots on target they had.

I thought they had a lot of laborious possession that often went nowhere.

Years on being coached by Mr Magoo that possession means you are the best team and stats tell you all you need to know. I dont concern myself with stats as only goals matter and they are always used to defend a defeat, was anyone impressed with our possession stat at Sheffield?

I think my favourite bit is that they have the score the wrong way round

Case in point this match report

    https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2020/jul/12/jose-mourinho-tottenham-hotspur-arsenal-derby

After all the optimistic talk, the north-London derby was a sobering reminder for Arsenal of just how much still needs to be done, just how pervasive are the problems Mikel Arteta inherited. And while the
victory lifted Tottenham above Arsenal, and for all this in some respects resembled a classic José Mourinho mugging, it was a result that did little to clear the doubts about the manager and his approach.

So poor old Mikel needs more time to arrest the slide yet the team that has dropped a lot further down the table with similar timing of manager change have increased the doubts on approach, by winning this game??

I’m not contesting the game could have gone either way but both teams hit the woodwork (us first) both opening goals came from defensive errors (theirs a wonder strike unlikely to happen often from that position) and although both teams had chances I’d argue that Kane’s misses were more out of character / down to decent keeping whereas Aubameyang only hit the target once. There’s very little mention of the gap between our game and theirs, the weather and the fact we by necessity or design are flogging a few players returning from big injuries and personnel are only using one of the transfers we’ve made in the last two seasons.
Is this all because the media want to see Mourinho fail or is there something about our football club, because short of having delusions of grandeur I’m not sure how this stacks up with the approaches of the rest of the ‘big six’ (reasons to dislike / criticise as follows: horrible fans, financial cheats x2, self funded mega rich under achievers, self funded rich under achievers)

I generally like Jonathan Wilson, but he hates Mourinho, needs to be remembered when reading his stuff.

When you manage an xG of 0.7 and give up 2.2, you were not mugged.

This is true ... I'm a possession man myself. I love watching my team dominate the ball by moving it fast and accurately, probing the final third of the opponent.

However, passing it around in your own half when your opponent is allowing you to do so is not worthy of any praise, nor should, being too cowardly in attempting to make an incisive pass when on, in favour of either a square or reverse pass.

Football can be played in either the Pep/Bielsa or the Jose/Simeone way but what both ways do require for winning, is switched on technically capable players, a 400% team ethic (effort), a desire to win and a goes without saying, very rare major clusterfudgery moments.

The only thing that gave me hope before the game, was that arsenal decided to go with Laurel, Hardy and nimcompoop in defence. And they delivered!

I wouldn't call Harry's performance a disgrace, seems a bit harsh ... What I call a disgrace has been the overall team performances against Everton, Sheff Utd and Bournemouth...

Harry is not playing at his optimum level but does seem a little bored by it all as do a few others.

Some of the unimaginative and selfish forward play has been a concern of mine for a few years. I don't see enough Son and Kane link-up play despite the many games they have played together.

And yeah it's always good to beat the Gooners, makes us all happy ...

Anybody implying Harry was at fault or didn't 'do his bit' against arsenal is talking out of their backsides.
