The manager has to be partially responsible but he can’t be to blame for players making basic errors such as missing routine chances or making more basic errors defensively
The players have to take their share of responsibility

You say that you’re happy with the squad and it doesn’t need much overhauling
I disagree but fair enough who would you want replacing?

    Lloris
    Aurier Dier NEW SIGNING Regulion
    Hojbjerg Ndombele
    Dele
    NEW SIGNING Kane Son

    Hart
    Doherty Rodon Alderweireld Davies
    NEW SIGNING Winks
    Lo Celso
    Bergwijn Vinicius NEW SIGNING
I'd be happy with those changes going in to next season. It's more about properly utilising what's available rather than wholesale changes afaic

A new starting CB and a RWF to compete with Bergwijn and then cover for Hojberg and Son - that's a very strong squad in the right hands. You'll just need to play to the players strengths rather than their weaknesses as we are currently doing.

Missing chances is not a mistake, it's what happens - sitting back and defending a 1 goal lead is a mistake as it is regularly being punished. Dont stop going for the 2nd goal

Frustrating draw after a very good first half and in patches good second half. We struggled at times in the second half, but Fulham created very little before their equaliser.

Thought we tried to get out, didn't sit that deep, but they just scored a great goal whereas we missed our chances to make our 2-0.

Is there anything more predictable that giving up a 1, 2 or 3 goal lead to a Mickey Mouse side this season? I had to turn it off when they equalised my blood pressure went through the roof I was so peed off.
I refuse to have a heart attack because of effing FFC.

We have given up a 3 goal lead once. And that was the first time at that point in the leagues history and was a freak
Beyond that they have all be 1 goal leads which have cost us which isn’t new but the frequency of them is the issue

Once this season. As a club we have given up 2 and 3 goal leads (so have other clubs) before. And it’s never nice.

I still don't get how we're supposed to be challenging for the title this season with the squad we have. We're only within touching distance because this time, nobody's been able to put together a strong run of results. I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder but I believe we've got too many weak spots in the team at the moment to aim any higher than Top 4.

The way we play at the moment certainly isn't too pleasing on the eye and it can be very frustrating when we don't get the three points but if we're still in the chase for CL qualification, that means we did some things right. Reading some of the comments on here, you'd think we're in a relegation battle!

For me, the most baffling thing was seeing Sissoko on the right wing where, in my opinion, his lack of technical ability is exposed in a crude light. However, it's obvious at this point that Mourinho wants someone with a high work-rate to complement Kane and Son. It's also quite obvious that he's reluctant to change a combination that has served him well so far, even if his strike partnership is showing signs of going through a dip in form. If he's worried about leaving Aurier exposed with a more attack-minded player, maybe he should have played Doherty instead but I think it's more a question of striking a balance in midfield.

I'm not a huge fan of Sanchez either (who is?) but I guess Mourinho didn't want to play too deep and he sees him as his only option for pace in central defense.

Whether we like it or not, Mourinho isn't going to turn into Johan Cruyff at this stage of his career. I don't get the 'coward' tag either. It doesn't make much sense to me. I don't think Martinez is 'braver' for instance - it's just different ideas about how to get the best of the players at your disposal. There are very few managers these days who put their ideals above anything else, including results. Bielsa is one in a million. Most of the others find a system that works (or that they think could work) and they stick to it, while tweaking a few things here and there.

Very few of our games have had much to offer in terms of entertainment this season. If we bag a cup and a CL ticket, it could be worth it because that's something we could build on. Only time will tell, but Leicester winning the league doesn't happen every other year...

I think the Sissoko decision is understandable given the options. Bergwijn missing, Moura looking average at best for a while now, Bale misfiring, Alli would have to be played out of position to play there.

We looked quite good in the first half too, so the decision did work out reasonably well. I don't consider Sissoko as good enough apart from the bigger games in any position, but this is the squad we have, so...

In a usual season the argument wouldn't be we should be top or challenging for the league it would be wherever the number of points we have tinkled away would have us (probably the difference between sitting in the top 8 to sitting in the top 4)

The team, with whatever problems you feel it has, is certainly better than the dropped points that have been discussed of late - forgetting the table for a moment I'd argue the manager and his approach has cost us somewhere in the 6-10 point range so far snd that's unsustainable.

Agree with most of that but missing sitters and brainless defensive lapses are mistakes in my book or worse

I’m sure Jose wanted to push on for a second goal and we had several chances to achieve this

As for the squad I live Dele and would love to have the old Dele back but a decent performance against Marine is maybe a start but an awful lot to do

Aurier Dier and Doherty aren’t good enough imo

Neither is Hart and we need a decent back up keeper
If Hugo gets injured we’re struggling

    Agreed

I haven’t been on this forum long but surprised at the anti Jose venom

He’s been here just over a year after inheriting a shambles

Considering everything I think we’re doing well

I agree with most of that.

We have a handful of excellent players. We have others that are good enough for where we want to be if surrounded by good enough players.

We definitely miss some balance though.

We have the choice between lacking pace at the back with Alderweireld or having pace with Sanches but thus lacking several other things.

We have a shortage of quality on the ball centrally with Sissoko, but without him we lack pace.

We get a lot of work rate from Bergwijn, Lamela or even Moura on the right, but lack creativity. Coupled with a lack of creativity deeper that leaves a lot of responsibility on Ndombele and Kane.

Not enough players that fit the jigsaw to make us better than the sum of our parts. We've improved with Hojbjerg and Reguilon in, with Aurier, Dier, Sissoko (for some games), Ndombele and imo even Son and Kane stepping up a level. But there's definitely some pieces missing.

Mourinho signed 2 of those players and has handed Dier a new contract and made him his guy on the pitch (he also got Alderweireld a new deal too) - if we have a problem with those players it's as much Mourinhos fault as any one else, and i just don't see a world in which they are targetted for upgrade any time soon.

He must have kicked a few members cats ;).

Seriously though there are a few who have never liked Jose since the day he walked in the door and even though we are in a final, still in Europe and still fighting for a top four place they are filling their boots at every dropped point. But as they/we say Stop! Hammer time.

I have disliked Jose for years. And wasn't happy when he replaced Poch. I was grudgingly happy when we were top to the league playing his defensive/counter attacking style, but if felt dangerous to me (if Emirates Marketing Project had not missed a hatful we'd have been stuffed). But making the same mistakes over and over again, resulting in two wins from 8 games (including 2 defeats), letting in late goals and then attacking, with Jose blaming the players for how the played AND NOT CHANGING IT is frustrating beyond words.

I was completely behind the appointment and have been staunchly until recent weeks I have grown privately a little concerned at the tactics.

But last night was a massive tipping point for me. I have gone from being privately a little concerned to being absolutely furious.

Picking that side and choosing those tactics for fudging fulham at home is totally unacceptable imo.

So much so I would want him formally warned by the Chairman.

    Ottawa, actually.
Mate, he played three defensive midfielders at home. Against Fulham. In 18th.

The guy is a coward of massive proportions, who, worst of all, never seems to learn a damn thing - this is the fifth time this season his cowardice in the second half has cost us, and this time, it was emphasized by him sitting on his arse watching us sit back and struggle for 25 minutes until we conceded, and then throwing on Lamela and Vinicius in a panic at being exposed by f*cking Scott Parker.

Some have never liked Mourinho. But some can see that he is learning absolutely nothing from his many failures this season, with a squad Poch would have killed to have.
