I know this might sound a bit silly but why doesn't Daniel Levy just tell the kick off takers to kick the ball out of play within the first 5 seconds.

Put a large bet on it and imagine the odds and then spend the money on transfer targets.

Raises the question of why we keep dingdonging around in Africa and the US in preseason. I've been saying for a few years now that if we're going to waste time so far away on preseason, we should be bolstering our position in Asia.

Weren't we in the south china cup or something preseason for 09/10?

Yeah, that was back in summer 09 and we didn't really tour much... I remember one of the Chinese lads scored a wonder goal against us and that got the rumour mill flying

But we need to be over there more. I think in the last decade we have been in the Moonies cup in South Korea and to Hong Kong and that's it... Not good when 60% of our overseas fan base is from the region!

Is that true? How do you know that?

I guessed that we deliberately went to the US and Africa because Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal have been very active in the Asian market for ages, less competition in the US and Africa.

 Because our chairman is quoted as saying so in the OP!

Also, without sounding like a right caaant, Africa is a waste of time as a marketing exercise. There isn't the disposable income to make it worth while plus you have massive land mass with very low population density.

Take a look at SA as a perfect example. Less than 50 million people and the worlds 169th population density... Add its neighbours into that, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, and you still have less than 100 million people... take a look on a map at how big a region that covers, it doesn't make any sense, especially when you factor in how many people can even afford to subscribe to a sports channel.

Big up Spurs for their community work, but as a business move it is completely the wrong area to be focusing such a limited resrouce (i.e. one week a year for preseason tours),

The way the marketing people measure these things, its probable 60% of our fan base comes from Asia is just as accurate.

I seem to recall it being mentioned at 150m in one of the PR documents Spurs have put out, relating to a new sponsor or the stadium. So a few million domestic fans won't change the percentage very much. Clearly this fanbase definition will be a very loose one. I've always found it surprising that sponsors would be expected to take these inflated estimates seriously.

Investec today announced they have renewed their sponsorship of Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The Specialist Bank and Asset Manager will continue their shirt sponsorship across the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup competitions, for a further year.

Investec began their sponsorship in 2010 ahead of a memorable Champions League campaign that included victory over five-time winners AC Milan and took Tottenham Hotspur to the quarter-finals.

Investec will be displayed on the Tottenham Hotspur shirts for the first time this season on 20 September when Lazio visit White Hart Lane for the clubs’ opening match of this season’s UEFA Europa League.

Raymond van Niekerk, Investec, said: “It is a pleasure to extend our association with Tottenham Hotspur. We continue our partnership with a club that complements our brand and gives us the excitement of being involved with world class football.

“We have enjoyed some exciting cup runs, reaching the Champions League quarter final two seasons ago and the FA Cup semi-final last year and are looking forward to this season’s cup competitions with great anticipation.”

Speaking about the announcement Fran Jones, Head of Partnerships, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “We’re delighted that Investec has decided to continue as the Club’s domestic and European Cup shirt sponsor.

“We have worked closely with Investec over the past two years on a number of successful campaigns both across the UK and whilst on tour in South Africa and we look forward to continuing this close relationship over the coming season.”
