Marcel Sabitzer

Last thing I read about him, was that Bayern were interested. Another one that got away..
Not a pop at this particular post but "the one that got away" references are so annoying.

Never any solid evidence that we were in talks or or even interested in this guy, but some spotty teengager - in between doing his geography homework and having a toss - realises he's a good player so starts up an online rumour that we are "linked" to him.

He goes elsewhere and lo and behold, we let him "get away", or Levy was difficult to deal with / dragged it out / was penny pinching.

So annoying though when "Levy was difficult to deal with / dragged it out / was penny pinching" ... was a factor. Agree?

Surely there has to be some balance.

Seems like every rumour and link with Sabitzer ended when Paratici and Nuno came in. Seemed like there were credible rumours before that, after not much at all.

Unless he was always Bayern bound I would guess he just wasn't a priority under the new men in charge. Think he's a very good player, available (until Bayern) came in, and at a good price.

Every window we'll be linked with, or even have some interest in at least 10 players for every player we sign.

Even players we actually make a move for we'll only end up signing a fraction of them.

Then when someone we were linked for or interested in ends up doing well elsewhere that's "one that got away".

Some truth to Levy being a factor sometimes. But there are downsides to any negotiating and financial strategy.

If we just moved quicker and were willing to pay more there would be more of the "one that we overpaid for" rather than "one that got away". We would end up paying more than we had to for the players we would have gotten cheaper. So less money for other signings.

Exactly the sort of balanced view that gets shot down on this forum
