Laptop problem

So I bought an Asus laptop just a month ago, a N53 SV. Thought I researched my purchase well, thread on here various other forums, google etc. What I didn't find out about was how brick Asus service centres are. Here in Austria they use a third party service provider, same as they do in England I believe. This laptop has been returned for repair twice. First time was for a faulty touchpad, laptop was returned with the screen buggered, over 50 dead pixels and a keyboard with keys that don't function. So off it went again and it comes back with the screen and keyboard replaced. But keyboard still doesn't work, top row number keys, backspace, f5, f10, 7, 4 and 3 on number pad and s keys don't work. Was told to reinstall driver which did nothing strangely enough. I don't really want to send it back in again because it'll probably come back with even more problems. Anyone know if I can fix this myself? Is it worth checking the keyboard connection? Any other simple checks I can do?

Depends if you don't mind dropping a few quid. You can get a replacement keyboard here:

And learn how to install it here:

But if you go into the gubbins you might invalidate your warranty. So you might just want to email Asus direct and cause a stink until they replace the whole unit and cite the inefficacy of their outsourced service department and their apparent failure to test their own repair work.

Agreed with the end bit, I'd phone them and calmly and politely tell them you want a refund as the unit is not fit for purpose, and, with the time you have wasted, you are only happy to accept a replacement if it is an upgrade on the unit you bought as recompense for your time and inconvenience, plus you now have a loss of faith in the model you have (assuming there is an upgrade and it is not top of the range).

Having a look on google, Asus only replace units after the third repair. I thought Asus used to have a good reputation for service, they certainly don't anymore.

Thats this country

Personally, I'd phone them and say I want a full refund.

Which they are oblighed to do if there is a problem in the first 4 weeks.

If you have had it for a month and they have fixed it twice.. tell them with no uncertain terms you want a refund.

Did you pay via credit card, worth checking whether you have insurance on it.

Seriously why should you not have a product thats in A1 condition

Read up on your consumer rights.. as soon as you start quoting your rights they will take you more seriously.

Should have taken it back to where I bought it to start with, but I thought I??d be clever and cut out the middle man and send it in directly for repair. Friend of a friend is a Lawyer, might see if I can get a threatening letter out of her should do the trick
