if theres NO pressure, the perfect ball to the keeper albeit in between the posts might be right the setup for a counterattack.

if there is noi pressure, the keeper will not be rushing out.

but i agree that generally best practice works, just that there are useful exceptions. i actually feel that loris doesn't launch enough counter attacks for son with goal kicks with pace instead of height.

He seems to have gone backwards since the WC.

Trippier has mugged the world off into thinking he is a great player as a result of a good World Cup.

I like the lad, but this past month particularly he has been nothing short of shocking. Silly errors. Poor crossing. Barely gets beyond his man these days. Backwards passing. Poor in the tackle. Lack of confidence.

All topped off with a tinkle-poor penalty against Palace in the cup, and an own goal against Chelsea which killed off any hopes of getting back into the game.

    Patience lost.

Trippier is at peak valuation, or past it already, and won't be improving from here. I hope we sell him this summer

Trippier might do better abroad. He's really good on the ball. Thought he was good on the ball Saturday, Poch played the redemption card well - like he has done with Llorente.

What? Really? He was poor, he hesitates whenever he gets the chance to cross now, even Lamela the most one-footed player in the squad put in more crosses from that side than Trippier in the second-half...

It's not just his crossing I was looking at. At least first half he was playing well, second half I kind of lost my mind some so can't remember.

I do think we need an upgrade though, his defending isn't good enough.

Agree Trippier has been making too many costly errors in recent games but he's also been doing some good stuff in between. His calamitous OG against Chelsea came towards the end of what was otherwise a very decent performance and for the first 45 minutes against Arsenal I made him one of our best players along with Sissoko.

    Seriously!!

Successful tackles, excellent first-time passes down the flank into wide open spaces for attackers to run onto, mostly decent crosses and corners that on another day were good enough to find a Tottenham head and, to cap it all, that superb fk that led to Kane's offside goal.

Unfortunately he had a somewhat indifferent second half in Saturday's game which I suspect is what is sticking in your mind, that plus his brain farts in previous games.

So yes he's been making too many costly errors in recent games but to say he's "nothing short of shocking" after otherwise decent performances in two tough games against the Arse on Saturday and Chelsea on Wednesday seems overly harsh imo.

Suggest you go back and re-watch his performance in the first half against Arse and then come back and give us a more measured opinion.

Tbf my comments were mainly based on his second-half performance. He was certainly worse in the second half from an attacking pov compared to his first half. In the first half he was meh going forwards.
Defensively overall he was ok, nothing special

He has a good first 20=25 mins on Saturday, few good tackles and interceptions. Looked like arsenal targeted him to begin with, but he coped well. Decent sgidt going forward as welll.
Did well against Chelsea and hazard until.... Well you know the rest.

Every side we play targets him, should tell you everything you need to know.

Problem with Trippier is he is a very decent second choice, really average first choice player. We simply cannot afford to play a two thirds of a season where he walks into the 1st team uncontested.

He'd be a lot quicker out he ran back properly instead of with one hand in the air appealing for decisions.

That for me is his biggest problem he has never been that good as a defender but for whatever reason he has got worse this season, he seems to be unaware who is running in behind him and when he does see them he is slow to react.
