When that happens to you I think it is the time to feign an injury ask to be subbed :D

The lad certainly doesn't lack confidence. Just a pity they couldn't beat Brazil, who sounds as though they've had a very good tournament. It also sounds as though Argentina had a nailed-on penalty denied, without even consulting VAR.

He was pretty poor for the second Brazil goal.

I really think a season playing first team football would be the best thing for him.

He wasn't that poor overall. And I don't think there was much he could do about the 2nd goal. His positional sense is quite advanced given his age and he was at the right place at the right moment in most of the match. Offensively didn't do much, as Argentina was playing more centrally, rather than using their fullbacks. I don't want to see him converted permanently to a RB, as I think CB or DM probably suits him better, but a season at RB out of necessity wouldn't be a bad thing, as it would give him valuable game time.

Wh6 would a lad who is starting for Argentina and playing very well by all accounts go on loan somewhere inferior to his club (I assume you mean for to go on loan for first team football..)

Because he will improve with a season of first team football, hopefully get stronger and less rash in the challenge.

He will get more first team footballer elsewhere for a season.

Why would a lad who is starting for Argentina not want to play week in week out?

Would you bring in someone else to take his role in the squad?

    Not unless someone leaves.

You have Davies/Dier/Sanchez as back up

If you flip it around and we didn’t own Foyth, would you be looking at buying the young, versatile, Argentinian 1st team defender and then sending him on loan to the Championship or relegation battle side?

I think he’ll get plenty of game time this season personally if he stays with us.

If Toby/Jan/Sanchez stay - will be 4th choice at best.

There would be PL clubs interested.

That's assuming Alderweireld stays? Or that we sign a replacement for him if he leaves?

I could see those players do a good enough job as backups. But I also could see Foyth get enough games if he stays to develop, and even develop further in the way we want him to given that he would be training and playing for us.

There would be a very small number of potential clubs where he would be a regular starter, playing in a similar style to ours, at the same level. If the perfect loan could happen I wouldn't be against it I suppose, but my preference would be for him to stay and develop with us.
I would definitely want us to sign him and keep him around if he wasn't already here.

Could he be our first choice RB next season?

I am not sure playing the same style is the be all if we look to send him on loan, he is very raw at the moment - a season honing his defensive ability above anything else wouldn't be that bad, would it?

Look how KWP has been held back, there is no certainties - but would he be in a better position with a full season under his belt? I think so.

Could be. With the lack of quality in the right back market and inconsistent performances from Trippier and Aurier, as well as him being played there a bit last season it wouldn't shock me.

He's played there for Argentina this summer. It could be similar to how he used Dier when he first got into the side. Foyth is not going to offer the pace that he would ideally want in a fullback but Poch appears to prioritise signing the right player above any player to fill a space.

We have a definite first choice centre back pairing. Unfortunately they're getting on a bit and injuries happen. Chances are that Sanchez or Foyth will get games. It's by no means nailed on that Foyth will stay behind Sanchez in the pecking order.

Just a pity that they're both right sided.

Also, we play a back three fairly regularly, expect to go a fair way in at least two cups, and our RBs haven't exactly excelled. So there's an excellent chance that Foyth gets a dozen games this season, probably more.
