Jesse Lingard

Tottenham 'join the race for Jesse Lingard' as Jose Mourinho eyes a reunion with the Manchester United midfielder... while 'West Ham and Sheffield United are also keen' to end his Old Trafford exile with a loan move

This would be the straw that permanently disables the proverbial camel.

What is his contract situation at Man Utd? Is he out of contract in the summer or does he have further years to go?

If the player is gettable on loan then Jose may feel that bringing in proper money for Dele and filling a squad place with Lingard is a sensible move that would also provide us with funds to address another position in the squad.

Alternatively turfing out an overseas, never fit player like Lamela and bringing in an association trained replacement like Lingard at no net cost would also be a sensible move in terms of giving us another precious overseas spot to fill.

But we free up an overseas place by turfing out Lamela don't we, so bringing in Lingard doesn't impact on that? We don't get extra overseas places for every extra homegrown player on the roster do we?

You get a maximum of 17 overseas places. That leaves 8 association trained players, I think we might have Carter Vickers registered as one of those at the mo.
