Harry Winks

Do you also remember that the main argument against signing him was that he'd be 3-4 times as expensive as PEH and we didn't have the money?

He also seems to play best with a more defensive midfielder next to him, PEH, Romeu. We needed a more defensive midfielder at the time.
No
The main argument was… that Hojbjerg is better
JWP won more tackles than anyone midweek. It’s a key part of his game. What he doesn’t do is pass a bomb to a player and then win the ball back after they can’t control it making the numbers look better

He is also a set piece specialist

We remember that disagreement differently, but fair enough.

That’s cool
It wasn’t you that I remember disagreeing with TBH. But there was a lot of talk of Hojbergs interception numbers as they were the highest in the league. What we now know is it’s because he can’t pass like top top player so he reacts sometimes to his own pass not being controlled by the man he is passing too (normally Moura)
And he doesn’t win that many tackles for a DM but we knew that anyway
I’ll add that I don’t think he is a bad player and used the right way once a week he can be very very effective. For me that’s the harassing role further forward (the dog role if he was a CB), kinda like kante does when he comes on for Chelsea. But only once a week as every time he plays twice a week his second game is really really bad

New manager comes in. Winks works really hard in training and gets another chance, but his performances aren't good enough and he gets dropped from the starting lineup and ultimately the match day squad altogether. Spends the next year or two making the odd cameo before finally the manager is sacked.

Rinse and repeat.

How long can this waste of space cling on at this club?

He's good against opposition that gives him room. Can't shield no composure, to easy to break down.

I’ve given Winks the benefit so many times and I hate to dig out our players, but today he was fudging abysmal. Time after time he conceded possession, and in such dangerous positions. He offers so little, he needs to go. Bournemouth probably.

Winks is good when we play well, but he doesn't get us to play significantly better when we struggle.

Case in point yesterday. Much better second half, could easily have had a key involvement for a goal, played some nice passes. But he's not at the level where he lifts us when we're struggling.

Better players around him would definitely help, I think there can be a place and role for him, but also open to him being upgraded on.

He wishes. Doubt they would take him

He must have given the ball away 20 times today and as you say in bad positions
He did produce 2 fantastic attacking passes though
But the thing that really grates me and my pals is the way he hides, he never wants the ball, he cannot be in the team if we want to do well

Well put! He work ok agains the weakest team when we dominate and he does not get pressured, but when we are under pressure he goes hiding and is as good as air defending.

Body shape is wrong for receiving passes and gives hospital passes when under pressure.

Yea agreed, you can quite rightly criticize Winks for plenty of things but hiding isn’t one of them.
Considering he must constantly feel he's in the 'last chance saloon' with lots of fans, ready to jump on him, he constantly offers himself and tries doing the things asked of him.

He is another one though that isn't going to be a sudden improver. We know what he is and sadly it will never be good enough, consistently.

Come on Winks, Doherty and Davies none of them are not good enough for a team aspiring for a top spot in the PL, you can literally find hundreds of equally good players in any weak league in Europe. And when I wrote Winks hiding I mean he is nowhere near the attacking team players when we are under pressure. Winks have no presence at all defending. We have gone through 4 managers now, It is not the managers fault. Players like Winks, Doherty and Davies have never been good enough for a top ten team in the PL. I think the only reason is that they are still here is that no club are interested in them and Levy cant make a buck on them.

And Winks stats for PL assists and goals I really don't know what to say about. Three assist in 120 games! Are you joking! https://www.premierleague.com/players/7488/Harry-Winks/overview

Premier League Record
Appearances 120
Goals 2
Assists 3
