He's been mediocre at best for the past 3 years or so, but was phenomenal against one of the best teams in the world yesterday. Can Conte get a song out of him? I wouldn't have thought it, but would not mind one bit! Get in, Winksy. :)

His first touch was Modric-esque today. What the hell has Conte injected into him. Either way, love it!

Good game from him yesterday. I would absolutely 100% still sell this guy. The better he plays and the more we more we can get for him, the more money we can use to reinvest and improve the side.

He's been useful both in this role now and in a central two under Conte.

He's always been in need of a role and system that suits him. If the plan is to play in a way that suits him I would be very reluctant to let him go. Seems like a good professional, home grown and academy product.

Will happily trust Conte on that decision though. Right now, he's much more of an answer than a problem for me.

Conte has injected movement ahead of the ball with some options and a style of play. Winks is a tidy passer, but he's not one to create and find space on his own. Conte has also injected a better structure defensively where Winks isn't left covering large areas.

Not sure that's enough to explain Winks having arguably his best game in years.

Belief that the system will work and suit you as a player, a role that suits you. That will foster confidence and better performances. But rare to see our happen this quickly.

Several calls for not getting carried away on here right now. I agree in principle, but hey, fudge it. Next game, if all our midfield options are available and Winks starts it would be on merit.

Said it all a long, winks and dele haven’t become bad players, they just weren't suitable players.
The right role will see them both flourish.

Huge difference was taking the ball on the turn and also having options for a quick pass
    Both create tempo and rhythm
Fans get anxious when we go backwards and sideways but that’s conte football and is part of the progression he wants
What was key with winks today was he knew where to hit quick passes too

    One word: Confidence

Confidence in themselves, confidence in their manager. Mourinho instilled a fear culture on the pitch, where individual mistakes were called out and playing the percentages was probably praised. I don't know whether the West Ham debacle was a turning point or whether it would have happened eventually anyway. Either way, Nuno simply wasn't the character to fix that, much as I hoped a decent man would be able to step up and elicit change.

Was yesterday's game the result of Conte effectively saying "fudge it, we're going to score more goals than you"? If so, more please.

Watching the game again, Winks had some really good moments (two balls into Son that were absolute peaches that didn't look as good as they should've due to Son miscontrolling them). In fact had Son had even a half decent game we would've won yesterday's game comfortably I think.

However amongst all of Winks' good play he also had a few moments that I'm sure Conte will be walking him through in a video reply. The piece of play where Winks got booked came because he went off on a crazy, wild goose chase, one man press and left us really exposed in the centre and then two other occasions when he gave the ball away really cheaply in the dangerous positions in the middle of the pitch. Those are the sorts of things we'll need him to improve if he is to really become considered a top class player.

One manager installs a fear of passing the ball forward that doesn't guarantee possession, the other manager installs a fear of playing negative balls when it can be played forward.
Kane and Son are looking more lively as well partly because they know there's a really good chance that the ball will come forward to them, where as under Nuno they were wasting their time moving.

The negative passing started under Poch and continued under Jose despite specifically stating that he wanted him to play forward rather than sideways.

I don't believe it has been directly manager related, the penny has finally dropped and hhe's just realised he's not going to play if he only ever plays safe passes constantly.

I was thinking on Sunday the way we opened Liverpool up almost at will was reminiscent of that first half against West Ham, except we were more clinical in that half. And then as you say after that second half every match became a grind, even if we took an early lead.

will be interesting to see if it was due to some unique positioning and defending by Liverpool but the fact we had the movement off the ball and a plan to hit that space was really promising, the 3-5-2 system seems to benefit more players than it inhibits, the 433 seemed to leave Lane isolated, Son not as involved, the RWF offering little in terms of genuine threat and the midfield tripping over each other with little option to pass it sideways into Kane with his back to goal.

Winks missed a lot of games in the last season and a half under Poch. He was always carrying injuries and never looked comfortable.

For all that Jose said about wanting him and the team in general to play the ball forward that wasn't what happened. Kane was about the only one that seemed to play the forward at a high rate. Jose was all about safety first. In Contes few weeks here we've seen all the team looking to play the ball forward more. On the evidence that the team as a whole played safety first under Jose and Nuno and the team as a whole are playing more progressive passes under Conte, I'd go with it's a lot down to the manager and not "the penny finally dropping" with Winks.

Better passing to him, better options for him, clearer plan for what to do.
