Harry Maguire

I see we've been linked with Laporte. So too have Villa.
He would be an excellent signing if we could pull it off.

Dont know why people are getting so wound up, on multiple threads, about Maguire. One lazy journalist writes something, it gets repeated etc etc. I dont think there is the slightest chance we'll be signing him

why the f would we sign him from ManU?
We have CB’s that cant defend, we dont need one more.. only thing he can bring is more own goals to the Club.
One bad season and the press thinks we are Everton
Because he is twice as at least 2 times better at playing CB than Eric Dier is. He is better on the ball, better with his positioning, better in the air and doesn’t specialise in running away from danger…. and l, unlike most of ours, he can actually play in a CB two as well.

Whatever his abilities, I dont see us signing a HG 30 year old centre back. Utd will still want a chunky fee and I dont see us paying a big price for someone who is 30

I liked the look of him when he was with Sheff Utd, he's suffered from injuries and drop in confidence, I dont think hes had a regular decent partner at United or with England. He's better than anyone we've got at defending high balls. Dont think he would be right for us unless he was really cheap.

They aren't looking for a big fee, seemingly they just want him off the books.

It's exactly why the press is posting it, it got the click/rage response they wanted

- He wants out, United wants him gone, they are making the noise to let everyone know he's available
- Spurs as usual is an easy marketing hit

Looking at it

- We don't give over 30 players on high wages multiple year contracts (which I'm sure he'll be looking for)
- He's exactly what we don't need, slow, panics and vulnerable to press, his only attribute over our current lot is he's good in the air
- He's also very bad press, the decision would be ridiculed (see the reaction already), the fans would be even more on the back of the team, he's the kind of signing regardless the virtue (if any) we will probably try to avoid
- Ange is known for dumping older players for young ones, so not in line with his or our strategy

Yep, of all the links, if you could get the right price, he would be on I would get TBH. If as you imagine Ange is true to his system then you need a ball playing CB and the team will defend from the front with the high press. I would take him

Ange doesn't go for older players, doesn't fit his intensity.

In 2-3 of his previous gigs, his first step was binning some of the older players, really don't see us buying him one (Especially one with so many question marks)

As much as I'd hate to have him here, he'll probably go to West Ham and end up being amazing for them.

The only reason I'd take him is to prevent him from saving them from getting relegated (which ironically leads to us getting relegated).

They play in a fairly low block so would suit them far better.

Quicker than Dier. Panics less than Dier. Better against a press than Dier. He would upgrade our defence significantly and allow us to play a two instead of a three. It would be a brave signing because of the vitriol that has been directed his way but he would improve us. I don’t think it will happen due to his wages being beyond us but if we did sign him then I’d be confident our defence would be improved,
